Deadlands

This was inspired by the World Anvil Summer Camp of 2021. This is for the article: An Inhospitable Region or Geographical Landmark

The Deadlands is a radioactive wasteland that was created by The Great Explosion, a catastrophic event that occurred around 1500 years ago. The explosion was centered on Alton City, causing the once-thriving metropolis to become a barren and inhospitable wasteland. The Deadlands is located on the border of the Stromsabre Commonwealth and Darkswamp Federation and is home to a variety of mutated and undead creatures. The terrain is a mixture of poisonous grassland and swamp, dotted with large Anubian Crystals that emit an eerie green glow at night. The center of the Deadlands is where the ruins of Alton City can be found, now known as Glow City, a city built on the ashes of the past. The ecosystem of the Deadlands is unique, featuring species such as Glowing Mushrooms, Anubian Grass, Black Dragon Trees, and many others. The region also experiences a wet and dry season, with lightning strikes on the Anubian Crystals being a common occurrence during rainstorms.

GEOGRAPHY

The Deadlands is a radioactive wasteland that was created by the Great Explosion around 1500 years ago. The explosion, which was centered on the city of Alton, created an 8-mile diameter crater in which the Deadlands now reside. The terrain of the Deadlands is a mixture of poisonous grassland and swamp and is dotted with large amounts of Anubian Crystals. The crystals give off a faint green glow that makes the whole area sparkle at night. The ecosystem of the Deadlands is dominated by mutated or undead species, such as Glowing Mushrooms, Anubian Grass, and Electrical Boars. Despite the harsh conditions, the Deadlands are home to a diverse array of life forms that have adapted to survive in this toxic environment. The weather patterns in the Deadlands are typical of the equatorial region, with a wet and a dry season. During the dry season, much of the plant life grows in size to better take advantage of the sunlight, while during the wet season, the plant life gets small to conserve energy. The Glowing River floods during the wet season, and during rainstorms, lightning tends to strike the large Anubian Crystals that dot the landscape.

ECOSYSTEM

The Deadlands is a radioactive wasteland that was created around 1500 years ago by The Great Explosion. The blast centered on Alton City, located on the border of the Stromsabre Commonwealth and Darkswamp Federation. The terrain of the Deadlands is a poisonous grassland and swamp, with an 8-mile diameter crater in the center. The majority of the species that live here are mutated or undead.   The ecosystem of the Deadlands is unique and hostile to most forms of life. The main feature of the environment is the Anubian Crystal, large pointy crystals that emit an aura of magical energy and are found scattered throughout the wasteland. These crystals attract lightning bolts and when struck, they light up like a lightbulb, making the whole area sparkle green at night.   The flora and fauna of the Deadlands have adapted to the radiation and poison of the area. There are a variety of poisonous plants, such as Glowing Mushrooms and Anubian Grass, which grow in the region. The animals here include mutated creatures like Void Flying Squirrels, Green Crystal Bone Deer, Phase Black Bears, and Electrical Boars. There are also undead creatures like Exploding Giant Ants and Red Termites. Most of the plant matter in the region is black in color.   The ecosystem of the Deadlands doesn't change much as the region is located near the equator. However, there are distinct wet and dry seasons. During the dry season, much of the plant life grows in size to better take advantage of the sunlight, while during the wet season, the plant life gets smaller to conserve energy. The Glowing River floods during the wet season. Additionally, during rainstorms, lightning tends to strike the large Anubian Crystals that dot the landscape.
