Prolog 1

The Brink

With the collapse of the civilized world in 2100, the planet Earth was ripe for the taking. But as fortune would have it they were visited by a benevolent race of bipedal amphibians. Earth gains a 2nd chance. Or so it seemed.

The race called themselves the Cilarie (silaree). They came with advanced technology and a promise to help humans take their next step and venture to the stars. The Cilarie helped with energy, farming, and cleaning up our planet. These advancements helped so many people so fast that it was not hard to accept their ongoing aid.

It took only years but the remnants of the human race to start having hope once more. The Cilarie helped advance our sciences and other disciplines. They, of course, were more cautious to give too much too fast, and this gave rise to some hatred early on. But, the world was on the brink of self-destruction, so it seemed pointless to most, they figured even if it turned out badly they were just trading one master for another.

But things are going well, and we accept their help gladly, we are happy the past is behind us. Of course, there were a few that dissented, but with each new advancement, they became less and less a problem.

It was agreed in 2120 that a world government (United Earth) was to be set up so that no country would gain an advantage over another. Two more practical reasons are to take power back from the corporations and to make sure the help from Cilarie would be given to everyone. This world government center was set up in New London.

Representation: As people were born into the world they were assigned to one of the 200 government representatives. This way each person from birth until death has representation. These representatives would represent their interests. It was required each month that a citizen fill out a monthly Support form to tell the government what help they needed. They would address these needs in their daily meetings. Some were referred to their local governments to handle them locally, but when the world government saw a need, they acted swiftly to find a remedy. The government was quick to resolve things with corporations usually not in the corporation’s favor.

Our space station was renovated, our moon base was now back in operation.

The Cilarie seemed happy with Earth’s progress, and in 2144 they began taking college graduates on as crew on their ships to help them acclimate to space. Earthlings were not as ready as we were hoping. The Cilarie slowed while we worked to find a way to overcome the challenges. It took 10 years, but finally, a remedy was found in a new element discovered on Io, a moon of Jupiter. This element called Naranium was able to help with the blends of materials needed to protect humans in space flight. Naran Technologies quickly began mining asteroids and visiting the other planets in the solar system. Humans were coming into their own.

Things advanced, and industries were now being led by many of these now 40-year-old college graduates. A new space program was being developed that would take us beyond our current limit of the solar system. The earth’s first interstellar ship was commissioned on October 24th, 2199. The vessel was the U.E. Venture. It was a small poorly armed survey ship that set out to explore our little corner of the galaxy.

War broke out between the Cilarie and the dictatorial galactic power, the Takon Empire. Earth was ready to test out their ship in battle and attacked a Takon transport. The U.E. Venture was heavily damaged but victorious. They limped home, but they were followed, and now the Takonians had found Earth. A month later the Takonians and the Cilarie were fighting in the space near the Sol System. The Battle of 100 Ships was fought at Wolf359. It left the wreckage of nearly all the ships in that system. The Takon Empire was driven off, but at a terrible cost to the Cilarie and they had only a few ships to defend their world. The Cilarie homeworld was also left devastated, and its people had nowhere to live. They left Earth and had to regroup, leaving Earth alone to protect itself.

Soon earth began infighting and everyone was fighting again about what to do. Many of the old rivalries resurfaced.

The Cilarie sought to ally with other races set to defend the Cilarie from the Takonians. After 7 months of encounters and fighting the Cilarie were getting desperate.

The Earth with its second ship “The Victory” was in a position to rescue a Cilarie destroyer from certain death and destroyed an unaware Takon cruiser before it could deliver its Vulture torpedo, a mighty ship killer.

Word spread of what the earthlings did. The Victory was a small cruiser with enough firepower to stand in a short fight. The Victory joined a small fleet of alien ships and fought several battles before being destroyed. But the crew did what they needed. They made a name for themselves, leaving humanity's mark on several victories.

After another 4 years of fighting the Takon Empire was driven back. The toll was high, and the earth was left alone for many years as everyone licked their wounds.

During the next few years, the corporations take advantage of the wreckage at Wolf359 and strip those ships of any useful technology. Corporations begin setting up facilities on other planets and moons in the Sol System.

A civil war breaks out on earth between the corporations and the UE government. After 30 days of intense fighting, several corporations are leveled.

The U.E. government formed a special branch called The Department of Corporate Affairs to reign in the corporations, and Nareika Anilin was selected to head the department. She is the 2nd child of Chin-Hwa (가장 부유 한) a direct descendant of Naree the Founder of Naran Technologies. Nareika in many ways is her 5th-generation, Great-grandmother. Nareika looked at the post as a stepping stone to get back into her father’s good graces and get her brother out of the CEO seat at Naran Technologies. But she, like her family, was honor-bound to work for the best interest of those who paid her. So Nareika did that, but she knew that her father would not be entirely happy with the outcome she knew was coming. But it would be best for everyone.

As the next few years passed earth began to expand. The corporations started growing too, but they were careful not to draw attention to their activities and began building their bases and ships. Nareika is shrewd though and is careful to alert the government to her enemy’s actions and just a few Naran activities, just enough to keep the corporations in their place and the government believing she was still the right person for the job. It was a razor’s edge she walked and Naree her Great Grandmother would be proud of her ability to do that here.

GenIsys corporation builds its first deep space Explorer ship (GenIsys One) to do deep space survey missions. It was launched in 2233 and colonization on other worlds began. Others follow and for 20 years earth civilizations grow and establish themselves.

Another war breaks out, and the Karthan Regime conquers and enslaves the cilarie. Earth proposes a coalition and help with the Cilarie issue. Other worlds in the coalition are the Grig, Vatari, and Lirara. The Vatari and Lirara are both humanoid races much like the earthers. The Vatari had avoided extinction only after a nuclear war and the Lirara were more advanced than both and were arrogant as they avoided the problems that both their fellow humanoid worlds went through. The Grig is a humanoid reptilian race with a calm, peaceful demeanor, their worlds were destroyed 100 years ago, and they now have a few homes in the space of others.

Earth, now a member of the coalition begin attempts to free the Cilarie, but their first attempt fails, and the alliance falls apart. Nareika now a leading member of the U.E. government remembers the help the Cilarie gave her descendants during the years prior. She heads a movement to attempt to free the Cilarie one last time. The final attempt in 2236 succeeds, but the Cilarie are a beaten race and only several thousand now remain. U.E. promises to help their dying world. The Karthan Regime retreats to their space.

Now at peace again, in 2241, the star Sol begins to emit high amounts of gamma rays, and the earthlings are forced to find a new home fast. The other races of the coalition relocate most of Earth’s residents to a world in the Aviron Sector. It took 3 years, and they were only able to save ½ of the earth’s population. Only 1 billion people were saved, while billions were left to their fate. The last group of people to be evacuated was exposed to the gamma rays to various extents and some died en route.

In 2261 the first human telepath is identified. His name was Jason, and he was born on Earth, a child born on the last starship to have left Earth during the evacuation.

The Coalition is still intact, but its resources were utterly drained helping get a billion people off Earth. This ragtag organization with just a few ships and fewer resources is going to need to be ready to fight if it wants its coalition to be more than just words. The corporations again start jockeying for power, and there are still enemies to deal with.

Now the earthers are building again. Everyone is racing to get to be top dogs as they begin to develop ships and explore space for what they can exploit.

The Cilarie are now more a Burdon than a help and many resent them now blaming them for all their troubles. The Cilarie are grateful for the rescue though and seek acceptance and to take back their sector from the Takonians. They help where they can, but many don’t want their help any longer.

The Grig here is working with partners to find new worlds. They help for their own sake as well. Looking for a new home. The Grig brings some beneficial technology but has not yet mastered terraforming. But they are strong and have good scientists, pilots, and warriors.

The Tribari, are discovered. They are an advanced race beyond everyone in the alliance. Earthlings view them with great distrust, and their influence causes the Coalition to do the same.

Today

If you use Prolog One, your world should have era five gear only and a lot of equipment from your previous Cyber GenIsys campaign or just old gear. This campaign will be gritty, and everyone is out for themselves. Era five should last for some time, as there is a lack of cooperation and trust in everyone. Not everyone from Earth was saved, and your players come from parents who were lucky enough or wealthy enough to make it on the transports. Your group most likely took their first steps as a baby on a transport ship. They will be more mercenary and self-serving. They may work for a corporation, the coalition, the United Earth government, or just be out for themselves. The Razor’s Edge organization is only a rumor now.

In The last 20 years, the United Earth government has begun to settle SH-8142 and Elduria. They are your outer worlds. There are 3 colony worlds, but we need more. We need to find food sources and minerals, that are lacking on our homeworlds.

There are only a few starships, and anything the players can get their hands on is going to be most likely from when they abandoned Earth and old. Use Melendez Brokers ship equipment for the systems of the ship.

Military: EAAC is Earth Army Air Corp (Military branch Army and Airforce) and EGN is the Earth Galactic Navy (Military branch Navy and Marines).

The governments and corporations will be as corrupt as you desire, but maybe something changed or will change or not.

Some realities: It was decided when we left old Earth to leave all those who were incarcerated where they were. This is a scar that the Earthers will carry. Many of the elderly and infirm were left by their own choice, not trusting the corrupt corporations and government.

The Coalition is currently depleted and needs time to rebuild. This leaves Earthers alone to rebuild their world.

The Cilarie are a beaten people. There are only a few thousand still alive, and they are trying to regroup.

The Tribari are very rare but available and could be a part of your group of operators as a scientist examining their new acquaintances, or maybe they are rouge from their people. In any case, they look at earthers as backwards people without much hope of surviving, so they watch and learn all the while being unwilling to help.

The Grigs don’t have a home, and they are refugees wherever they go. For the last century they have been slowly building up small communities on unpopulated worlds to make a comeback, and they have some ships still after they helped evacuate Earth. This earned them a resident status on other worlds, but the paranoia of those leaving a corrupt old Earth is still present and hard to set aside for most people.
