Hayasa-Azzi

The merchant powerhouse of the world

Hayasa-Azzi is often referred to as Hayasa.
Hayasa is a mostly desert kingdom. This particular kingdom was founded 1200 years ago. Some of the oldest ruins in the land are found here near the northern mountains. The residents of this ancient land typically live in stone or tent cities on rock outcroppings or around oases. The desert is not too severe, but traveling in it without proper supplies will lead to your death. Sandstorms are a rare occurrence.
Culture: Hayasa-Azzi has a general laissez-faire attitude to most things in life. Tieflings are more accepted here than anywhere else in the world, capable of reaching powerful official and unofficial positions. Polyamorous relationships or multiple lovers is common practice. Rare sexual orientations are generally allowed. Hayasans are not shy about what they like. Free time typically involves lounging around on floor pillows or low couches, pursuing music and art, becoming a chef, taking drugs, and otherwise indulging in virtues and vices. Workers, who typically have little free time, spend it drinking, fighting, or whoring. They try to cram in as much enjoyment as possible.
There is no standing prison system. People used to be sold into slavery for certain crimes, nowadays they are required to work off their crime in service to the people the criminal harmed as an indentured servant. Due to the recent outlaw of slavery, these indentured servants now have rights to protect them from harm while they work.
  Customs:
  1. The first name of the Emperor and governors are not used or asked for except in the most intimate of relationships.
  2. The typical greeting is 'Bidey, sir/madam' with an extended hand palm turned up. This is responded to with 'And twofold' with another upheld palm toward the first person. Bidey is an old Hayasan word for 'Luck onto you'.
  3. Every house or semi-permanent residence has a rug immediately behind the front door, where you must rub your shoes before entering. If a home does not have a rug, you do not need to clean your feet.
  4. 2 meals a day. Breakfast is a large snack, and dinner is a large meal. Breakfast does not involve meat, while dinner does.

Geography: The ½ northern section of the border with Nobunaga is a mountain range, with only 2 well known paths through it: the Snake Path (northernmost path, known for its winding turns and body count), and the Penumbra path (more southern, skinnier, lower in the mountains). The border of Hayasa-Hycernia is relatively verdant given Hycernia's large annual rainfall. The coastline of Hayasa has a port big enough for ships, named Sarush, and consists mostly of desert meeting the ocean, with a few areas rich in fish due to nutrients seeping up from the ocean floor (increased magma activity causing the rolling hills too, creates many gems and ores to mine).
There are several oasises in the Hayasan desert as it is not a particularly arid desert. A nontrivial amount of rain does make its way into Hayasa from Hycernia's coast.
The major cities are generally constructed on rock outcrops in the desert or on other rock terrain or mountains.
There is the main road going through Hayasa from Hycernia, the Gold Road. This road leads near a few towns and then eventually Bukhara. The Gold Road continues to Nobunaga after going around the mountains. No other roads traverse the breadth of Hayasa.

Structure

The Padishah rules the nation, with the satrap governors acting as a parliament of advisers. Several of the adviser positions are empty due to Padishah Damocles having several executed and not seeing the need to appoint more.

History

Hayasa-Azzi is a nation older than Hycernia. Hayasa first formed in 3167 CC, from where historians are not certain. What is known is that a group of different tribes/humans came together to make Hayasa. Some scholars call the current Hayasa kingdom Neo-Hayasa-Azzi because of the recent reformation, but this is not in common parlance.

Demography and Population

This is a human nation that has a laissez-faire attitude to most things. The population is 55% human, 10% half elf or half orc, 15% tiefling, 5% tabaxi, 10% goliaths, 5% dwarves. Total nation population is 2 million souls.

Military

Hayasa-Azzi is a newly rich nation, whose people prefer to spend their time far from soldiering if possible. While a small portion of the populace pursues martial skills, even fewer act as professional soldiers, while many of them work as mercenaries. There are 5,000 professional soldiers within the Hayasan military, and 500 royal bodyguards. Most of the Hayasan military strength now relies on mercenaries for large scale conflicts. They can typically field an army of 15,000.
