Spinal Shivers

There's a thick blanket of snow on the ground. We were not ready for this. My men are shivering despite their winter gear, grouping together around heaters and under blankets, desprate to stay warm. I'm standing on the city wall, watching as it more white powder falls from the sky. I'm no weatherman nor a nature expert but this storm isn't natural. Even I know we don't get this much snow. We aren't north enough and we're back against the fucking desert.   "Kian!" I look towards the voice just as my little sister starts sliding on the ice. I grab her arms, balancing her.   "Easy Anahita. I don't need you breaking your neck." She grabs ahold of the low wall, looking out at the snow covered desert and icy waves. "What are you thinking?"   "That the castors crafting this storm are out there, hiding amongst the snow, protected by their dragons." She shoves her hands into her pockets. "Though I have to say, the snow is very pretty."   I nod my head. "Don't fret to much."   The snow starts falling harder, the wind picking up. A harsh, piercing cry rips though the sky. Anahita jumps, slipping on the ice and falling on her ass. I pull out my sword, scanning the sky for the beast.   "Ready the cannons and ballista!" I shout, shoving my sister against the wall with my foot. Shoulders race about, sliding about on the icy rocks. A second roar and the faintest shape against the clouds. "Dragon!"   The tempeture plummets even more, making me tremble with cold. This cold is extreme.   "Kian." Anahita's teeth are chattering. "It's dropped from -1c to -17c in under two minutes."   It keeps getting colder. The dragon's cries are still heard high in the sky, the storm starting to drop hail onto our heads. Anahita covers her head with her Scribr, trying to protect herself from the ice bits. I shove my helmet on, frost starting to form on my clothes. "Anahita, get inside."   My sister starts moving towards the stairs but freezes. "Anahita!"   Ice begins to cover my sister's entire body. She's shivering even harder. "Anahita!"   The castor steps up beside her, towering over her with enormous black wings casting a shadow over her. He grabs her by the arm and tosses her over the side of the stairs. Then he turns to me, a cold, harsh blue glow shining where his eyes should be.   "You should have ended this war when you had the chance, Prince Kian." The voice sends a shiver down my spine. It's eeire but somehow, familiar. "Consider this a warning that you should pass onto your mother; stop your invasion on Elven lands and we won't bring about destruction to yours."   I can't shake the chills down my spine. Every word he speaks, it's like someone's walking on my grave. "Your country has wealth that we will take into the empire and make us powerful."   He swings his staff, an icy blade arching from the top. A scythe. Makromant.   "You." I'm shivering so hard that I can't keep a grip on my sword.   "You can't handle what we have in store for you." I can't focus, I'm so cold. So cold, ice building up on my spine. The Makromant grabs my arm, pulling me close. "I recommend you reconsider this war, before you find yourself frozen by my powers."   He spreads his wings and takes off, disappearing into the clouds. It stops snowing. I'm still shivering but not from the cold. Him again but he's nothing like before. Strong, powerful. Shivering from fear.
