Message Stone

"What about Kenji and Veryan?"   Feidil sighs. "They've gone silent. Nothing in several weeks."   "I swear, if Kenji let himself get distracted because of some conspiracy theory, I'm going to beat his ass." Bercalion clenches his fists. I laugh at my friend's comment. If he actually tried that, Kenji would put him in bed for a week. Glandur hands me a message stone.   "It's connected to the regional chiefs. They'll be waiting to speak with you, at your earliest connivence of course, my princess." I sigh heavily.   "I'll see to it then." I activate the message stone, waiting. One, two three, four. Five? "Greetings my fellow chiefs."    "Your highness." Hearing the voice of my father's closest friend puts me at ease.   "Chief Sadron, it is good to hear your voice again." I dab tears from my eyes.   "Shadow Princess. I pray you are well."   "As well as I can be, Chief Nimtolien."   "Young Storm." Chiefess Tanlicumiel sounds relieved. "It is good to know you are safe, especially after so long."   "If I may interrupt, dear commander." The fifth finally speaks, sending a shock of joy though me.   "General Beriadawen!" She laughs.   "Good greetings, it's been a bit. Glad to my other commanders' voice." I can almost see her settling into her seat, relaxed and commanding at the same time, a warrior's smile crossing her face, feet on the table in front of her. "Prince Veryan and Sir Glandur asked me to keep an eye on the tribe while they were away searching for you and your son. Don't fret, they're well, or as well as they can be, all things considered." Lalith has wandered over, apparently having finished with his business, taking a seat on the rail. I pull myself up as well, letting my wings drape over the side.   "Oh, I'm not alone by the way." I hand the message stone to Lalith.   "Hello Chief Nimtolien, Chief Sadron, Chiefess Tanlicumiel, Captain Beriadawen, Chief Rincarvornon." He smiles one of his soft smiles.   "Prince Lalith!" Bericdawen exclaims. "Oh, thank the Gods! We were beating ourselves up that we weren't able to locate you!"   "It hasn't been pleasant but I'm alright, though I do hope none of you are needing of my mother's swift return." I give my son a look. There's no calm joy in his eyes.   "It's not strictly necessary, though the sooner she returns the better it be for all our people." Chief Sadron sounds a bit concerned.   "Things better be urgent if you need to keep yourself and your mother away." Chief Nimtolien sounds a little irritated. "Having the Royal family return in full is something all five tribes have been waiting for with great anxiety."
Message stones are the oldest form of instant long distance communication. The Elrim are quite proud to know have that to their name, even beating out the Coruscarean Emprie.
