Coruscare's First Emperor

General / Emperor Serafim Trajko Coruscare

It's quiet. No screams, no sounds of blades, no rain. The battle is finally over. I'm exhausted, covered in blood and surrounded by the bodies of the senators. I sink into the Speaker's chair, sword limp in my hand, looking out towards the entrances, waiting. I sigh.   "It is what it is." I look at the blood-drenched floor. The gold liquid shimmers with the torchlight. "This marks the beginning of a new age. You just couldn't be a part of it."   Movement catches my eye. I move my head, blinking tiredly. There's someone hiding in the shadows. I force myself to my feet and take two steps towards the corner. "Come out. I know you're there."   A young woman, about my age, steps out. She's terrified. Not a senator, one of the workers who brings water to them. I keep my blade limp in my hand, waving her forward with my other. "It's over, you're safe."   "You and your men killed them all and you're claiming I'm safe? Is that what you're going to tell everyone else? That they're safe?" She's nearly screaming. I don't want to deal with this right now, but I've got no choice. I'm in charge now.   "You were here when they were. You heard the decisions they were making before it was public knowledge. You know they were running our republic into the ground with no regard for what it was doing to us." I lean my sword against the Speaker's chair, showing her my empty hands. "I watched from the edges of the republic, seeing our lands fall into enemy hands, our people suffer and die of thirst and starvation. I have fought fruitless battles because of decisions you heard them make. Surely you understand why I had to take this action. There was no way to make them change their ways. You know how selfish they were. You must understand I only did this to ensure that our people were taken care of."   She looks at the dead senators. I can see how thin she is, hardly better off than most of the family members of my foot soldiers. It's such a struggle to pay them decent when the senate won't raise the wages. "I'm just trying to ensure the health and prosperity of our people. This is how it can happen. I will make our people strong."   She slowly walks over to one of the senators, lightly nudging his body with her foot. There's anger in her eyes.   "They cut my pay, again." She looks at me. "My father is ill, and I can't afford his medicine. They kept giving more to themselves."   I nod my head. "You say you'll make our people strong?"   "I swear on my life I will see our people strong." She's not trembling anymore. I hold out my hand to her. "Be the first of the city's citizens to join us. Help them understand that we're here to help. I'm here to make a change, for all of us."   She slips her hand into mine. "I'll gladly help you in your mission. I'm Farzaneh Tehrani."   "General Serafim Coruscare." She shakes her head.   "Not general. What we need is something more." I smile. She grips my hand tight. "What you are, is our emperor."

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Serafim Trajko Coruscare was born to a poor family during the worst time in his people's history. The government was corrupt, they were losing land and the people were suffering. He had little in the way of an actual education, only learning the bare basics because his father was a farmer. As a result, life for him was difficult has he had to help make sure his family wasn't getting scammed out of what was owed to them for the crops they grew.   The only escape was joining the military and that was barely any better. However, Serafim was very clever and not only did he climb the ranks, he also made a lot of powerful friends. One of those friends was Blagoj Maslinka, a well-educated officer who took a liking to the enthusiastic and clever Serafim.   He watched from his posts on the edge of the country, seeing how poorly their senate was doing with leading. At twenty he was in command of a legion. By twenty-five he had four legions under his command. This is when he made his move.   His marched his four legions on Sonce. As they marched, rainclouds gathered overhead, threatening rain. The plan was to attack just after noon, once the senate reconvened from the lunch break. Just before the attack began, it began to rain. Serafim smiled when this happened. His men knew how to fight in the rain, the men of the 1st legion didn't. The only real hiccup was that the 2nd legion was there as well, but they would suffer with the rain as well.   The battle began with a viscousness unseen by the civilian population. Serafim ensured his men wouldn't harm the civilians, he needed them to be on his side when this was all over. While his men dispatched with the two legions opposing them, he headed to the senate hall. By the time he arrived, he was soaked in rain and blood. The senators were terrified, some trying to flee, some immediately surrendering and others trying to stand against the wildly popular general.   None of the senators received mercy. This was Serafims' most horrific act and even he admitted this, but it was a bloody necessity. Dawn of the next day saw bloodstained roads and Serafim in a chair in the center of the senate hall, surrounded by the corpuses of the senators and covered in blood, now being hailed as emperor by his men.   After the bloodbath is done, Emperor Serafim began reform projects. In the space of five years, he watches as his people start growing strong and healthy. After that, he pushed outward, conquering lands they had lost in decades prior and going even further out.   A decade of conquest later, Emperor Serafim returned to Sonce to rule his people as fairly as he could. He made sure everyone had access to bread and fresh water, instated basic education requirements and started up the science institute. This set the foundations for the incredible advancements they would make in medical and technology in the future, if accomplished by horrific means, to outsiders at any rate.   After a lengthy, seventy-year rule, he died in his sleep, being succeeded by his only grandchild, Dana Coruscare.

Education

He didn't come from a particularly wealthy family, so most of is early education came from his parents. This was sufficient for him to join the military where he received further education when he proved to be a skilled leader.

Employment

Originally, he was a foot soldier in the military. He worked his way up to the highest rank, general. Eventually, he became the first emperor, mostly because he decided he could do better leading the country.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Conquering the capital, Sonce and becoming the first emperor of Coruscare.

Intellectual Characteristics

Clever, cunning, a great military leader, charismatic

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To stabilize his people and country, which he had grown up watching fall apart due to poor leadership. He also had a drive to gain more power.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Great with crowds, a skilled military leader and someone everyone seemed to love.     He admitted to not having artistic skills though he did have an eye for skilled people who could make good art pieces.

Virtues & Personality perks

He put his people first, even above his drive for power.

Vices & Personality flaws

Was a bit power hungry, but considering the state of his people, he never truly amassed the power he would've truly wanted.

Hygiene

Always presentable. How else would he keep his people's favor. Except if he had just won a battle, then they might see him filthy with blood and dirt.

Social

Reign

He was the first emperor of Coruscare, which he named after himself. His rule began on the 8th of Avgust in the year 2459 and ends on the 30th of Juni in the year 2539, when he passed in his sleep at the age of ninety-five, when he was succeeded by Dana, his only grandchild. His seventy-year rule made Coruscare a force to be reckoned with and left them in a position to become a world power.

Family Ties

A single child, Azar Coruscare, who died before him and a single grandchild, Dana Coruscaer, who was his heir.

Social Aptitude

Actually, very good with people. Extremely popular with the civilian and military classes but the nobles hated him. They were unable to do anything about it, because, if they tried, the civilian and military classes would defiantly revolt against them. As the older generation of nobles started dying, and their children started coming into power, as well as new senators taking their places, the disagreements became less and less. By the time his reign ended, the senate, Imperial family, military, scientists, and civilian unions had more peaceful relations.
Farzaneh Tehrani, she was special. First to call Serafim emperor, she became an invaluable aid to him as he gathered more power and was accepted as emperor by the people at large. Easily the most important thing she could provide him, was the ability to read. Due to his poor upbringing, he never learned to read. This lacking in his education came violently to the forefront in the first days after he took over. She cleverly worked her way to intrude on his clear suffering at the realization that he might be outed as illiterate and continued to be the one to read all things to him throughout their lives. Her support became so important that he married her, making her the first empress.
