Britannian Special Service
The Britannian Special Service is a military unit assembled from ranks of reformed criminals and washed out soldiers. These special agents serve as spies, saboteurs, and assassins at the pleasure of the Britannian royal spymaster, Prince Tepin Rathmore.
Structure
Unlike the regular banners of the Britannian muster, the Special Service is a permanent standing unit. Also unlike the rest of the Britannian military, the Special Service does not fall under the command of the Lord Protector and is instead led by Prince Tepin Rathmore of Edinburgh.
Lieutenant Julian Beech serves as the Commanding Director of field operations. He is supported by Deputy Director Boris Borovich, who also serves as attaché to the regular army.
History
The Special Service was founded during The Anarchy of the third Mortmare civil war. After breaking out of Edinburgh prison, Tepin Rathmore retained his conspirator-escapees as his personal Guild of Thieves. This core group of criminals and ne'er do wells (including a young cutpurse named Julian Beech) went on to perform notorious acts of terror and violence against Rathmore's enemies, including the cruel assassination of Prince Camlann's young son.
After Reunification the Thieves' Guild was reformed into a disciplined military unit committed to the defence of the Britannian Crown. The conduct of the Special Service maintained the freedom of Scotland during the imperial subjugation of Britannia and proved indispensable to the free forces operating abroad during the War of the Phoenix.
