Nampuli

Nampuli, like many other countries in the world, is a young country formed from a collection of city-states. In Nampuli's case, it formed from city-states in the loosely allied confederacy of Shetai. The Iron General, Suku conquered the city-states in the northern end of Shetai and installed military governors in each city.

Demographics

Primarily darker skinned humans and pockets of orc enclaves.

Government

Nampuli is currently organized as a militocracy. There is a large military presence in each major region and city, and governance is carried out by military appointed leaders. The Iron General leads from Lalanimani. He has five regional generals, each of which controls the government, people, and armies of a region. Even the smallest of settlements contains at least a squad of national army soldiers for discipline of the locals and day-to-day governance. The military acts as government, police, and army.   When soldiers enlist, or more often are drafted, they are trained in one of several different locations where they learn the basics of governance as well as martial training, and are transferred to duty in locations other than their home region such that their loyalty is to the army and not their point of origin.   Orc enclaves often have their own government systems, but pay tribute to the Nampuli National Army via an "ambassador" who represents the NNA within the enclave.

Defences

Nampuli's countryside is littered with watchtowers. They dot major roadways as well as are scattered throughout the wilds and along the coasts to serve as protection for Nampulians from creatures of the wild or bandits, but also to warn of potential invasion forces from any direction. The southern-most borders are the most well-guarded with Suku constantly on guard for a retaliation from Shetai.

Industry & Trade

Nampuli's major industries are in mining metals, both precious and not, steel, and arms. Steel was first developed and perfected in Chaldra. Nampuli's mountains are ore and gem-rich, offering a wealth of materials to miners, refiners, and merchants. This money fuels the steel and arms industries.

Infrastructure

The Iron General demands that infrastructure be taken care of and kept in working condition. Bridges, roads, walls, and water delivery systems are all fortified, inspected, and repaired regularly by the army. A trained and educated Corps of Engineers leads new recruits in the grunt work of repair and building new infrastructure. This is often the duty of drafted or penal recruits- those sentenced to service as punishment.

Guilds and Factions

While the only way to get anywhere in government is by joining the military, there are other factions in Nampuli, including guilds for mining, refining, and arms construction. Particularly successful members can buy their way out of mandatory military service for themselves or others.

Geography

The land of Nampuli is mountainous and tropical. Nearer the coasts, the land turns into swampy jungle while the altitude of high mountains levels out the heat into a more temperate environment. The highest peaks see snow through much of the year.
