Fytulk Timberlands

The Fytulk Timberlands are a massive forest that blankets a majority of Ascus. The forest is largely mythical in status, despite the efforts of Ascans to tame it.   In old times, prior to the introduction of people from the north, Omphalos was split into three parts. The humans kept to the north in the flatlands. The dwarves kept to the west in the mountains. The elves took to the forests in the south. The ancestral home of the so-called wood elves rested somewhere within the Fytulk.   After the northerners swept through Omphalos, bringing their own gods and culture, they pushed against the elves until hostilities erupted. These culminated in an event known as The Decimation. The elves largely disappeared through whatever magical cataclysm had happened and their homeland was lost. The few elves who remained, largely unwelcome in Ascan society, were left to wander the woods, looking for their lost homeland. These became known as Walker.   The humans who remained created pockets of safety within the woods, slowly carving roads and towns out of the trees, but superstition says the trees push back. Few who leave the roads return without stories of the monsters who dwell within, whether they be creatures, Walkers, or the forest itself.

Geography

The Fytulk spreads across much of the interior of Ascus, as far west as the mountains, as far north as Wandermere, and as far south as the trees will grow.

Fauna & Flora

The northern part of the wood is largely deciduous, though the further south one goes, the more coniferous the wood becomes. All manner of creature lives within the woods from beasts to monstrosities, dragons and aberrations. Most of the non-beast creatures avoid roads and cities, however, and dwell in the deeper parts of the forest where few humanoids tread.
