Xexas

Xexas are people that were born from the ocean but were forced to come to the surface long ago. Now a small population resides on Airithrea as their last home, but their numbers are slowly dwindling.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These bipeds have a mixture of skin and scales that range from green to blue to red. They are lithe in from and have fins on their head and arms. They have no hair. Their hands were once webbed but are typically cut away as part of a cultural practice but retain their webbed feet. They can breathe in air and water but do require a high moisture content in the air to breathe comfortably.

Genetics and Reproduction

There are three sexes in this species, the weven, temale, and bamale. The temale and bamale both act the "male" in comparison to the human reproductive system. They both provide and the weven receives both. After their union, a single egg is produced which takes about two years to hatch. In that time the weven is unable to mate again. This creates a problem that forces weven to have three viable offspring to maintain the population. With only one third of the population as a weven, this can cause problems if any die.

Ecology and Habitats

They desire a humid and warm climate like the area of Airithrea. while they can live solely underwater, they are no long ecologically competitive anymore below the surface which forces them to remain on the surface.

Naming Traditions

Naming consists of syllables from their language of the Xenras. However, they make a combination of sounds with no real consistency. For example, Tyor or Bavoq are possible names or even the ones from the mainland. We have yet to find any pattern to give us an idea of what names go with either their culture, sex, or family.

Common Etiquette Rules

A common greeting is to caress the side of your friend's face.

Common Dress Code

They typically dress to cover their reproductive parts and wear long cloak around themselves. Cloaks would be removed only during physical expression or in a casual setting.

Celebration of Age

This holiday was created to honor the elders that rarely make it the long age of 55 years old. The elderly retell their lives while the youth participate in ceremonies honor their fallen ancestors.

History

The xexas population has been trapped on Airithrea for years until the tear of magical energy was finally lifted around the island a few hundred years ago. Historically, we didn't even know they existed and to what extent. From what we could gather, their world has been broken up into three distinct events, The Landborn, Death, and Liberation.

The Landborn

Before establishing their first surface colony. From when they landed they kept to themselves and even had little relations with their neighbors the Griffirca. It would not be around the time of the founding of the Aulus Imperium. Reports have indicated that they were all around the coast, there numbers would disappear just as the tear in reality was made around the island. At the time research would find this mysterious until they returned years later.
However, they wanted the entire island. Legend has it their people were push to the surface by some sort of creature. What moved them is unknown, but all their people eventually came onto land to escape their demon.

Death

While they were establishing themselves on the island, a tear in reality trapped everyone on the island. Panic erupted with no access to the sea with many cratering factions among themselves to attempt bring down the barrier. Amidst the chaos the Griffirca were rallying around a new king. Their king attacked their fragmented people and slaughter them causing them to rally around their own leadership. War was inevitable, but the xexas had the had the magical edge while the Griffirca had the people. Eventually it ended with the xexas losing most of their land to now only having 3/10 of Airithrea.
With this loss, it divided their people even more into a civil war been the Royal Loyalists and the Liberators. The Liberator movement rallied around Ballow Louoe a working class xexas who lost his arm in an accident as his place of work. This happened to be part of the Royal's effort to make weapons against the Griffirca. They wanted to liberate their people from authority and bring liberty to their people. The conflict lasted months before the king was assassinated and Liberator flags waved across the capital city.
However, a new problem was on the horizon. Griffirca refugees began to travel into their borders due to the lack of food and services in their country. While barely able to support themselves, many were turn away which even lead to raids on their people. Luckily before a second war could be declared, the tear suddenly vanished, and a new world opened to them.

Liberation

With the Liberator political party focused on internal struggles, their rivals the Imperialists wanted to expand to the mainland and maybe their old home. Due to the Liberator Parties lack of support from the long years behind the tear, the Imperialist won their first election into leadership. This made them expand completely outward, but the Imperium stopped them from coming to the mainland. By the time they could mobilize any sort of expedition the Griffirca had made an exclusive treaty with the Imperium blocking out access to the mainland. They then turn to the ocean where small colonies began to from again with the hope that their old enemy has long ventured far from their island.
Now they remain isolationists blocking any navel access to the oceans to the east.

Common Myths and Legends

The Deep One

While translation is still in progress due to their old dialects not being compete. Legends says a creature from the deepest part of the ocean devoured nearly their entire race before being forced to the surface. It's said that it will return with the skies meeting and when the dark and light finally expire. They hope it never comes.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Due to the recent xenophobic ideology from their people, relations are generally worse across the board. We hope to get a proper examination within the coming years after relations are improved with the Imperium and the Nation.

I'm surprised they were completely wipeout by the griffirca. They have not been known for their military prowess.
