Winter's Blade

The Dark Spear, the Frost Blade, the Frozen Peak, the Chill Spire. The largest mountain in Kalia is known by many names and acts as a guiding point for many of those who travel the wintry wastes of The Chillands.

Geography

The Blade is a jutting peak of dark stone, white snow, blue ice and green trees. Cave systems and jutting overhangs dot the Spire offering reprieve for those brave or foolish enough to attempt the climb. The reward for such an endeavor include, among other things, a view that stretches the entirety of the Chillands. Many of Bladerest will make short pilgrimages up the side of the of Blade, in part as tribute to the god of the mountain, King Winter, but as many will attest they also make the trip for the view of Winter's End is worth the trip itself.

Localized Phenomena

The Coming of the King's Castle - Once a year, during the height of the Kingtide Festival in The Free Lands of Arkia, a glowing castle the home of King Winter appears upon the top of the peak, along with astral lights that radiate from the castle. The castle appears for two to three fading away, the lights lasting an additional day or so after.

Fauna & Flora

Flora - Along the lower areas of the Blade, many Evergreen trees and thick bushes grow despite the cold. However, as one climbs higher the trees become fewer, and eventually so do the bushes and the shrubs, giving way to the snow and ice.   Fauna - Few animals live solely on the mountain side, as the sparse vegetation and the monsters that live at the higher elevations act as natural deterrents. Even still, many creatures make can be found through out the lower regions of the Blade. These include thick furred deer, goats and the occasional bear. Still one creature that is known to live no where else in the wilds of Kalia, and is treated the sacred animal of King Winter, is the Red Panda.     Monstrosities - Frost Griffons, Crag Cats, and Owlbears are the primary Monstrosities that live on and near the mountain, though harrowing tales to chill the soul would speak of frightful creatures deep with in the cave systems of the mountain. There also tales of strange creatures appearing on the mountain during and after the arrival of the King's Castle at the mountain's peak. This has included in the past, a White Dragon, Ice Elementals, and a Frost Worm.

Tourism

Many of the devote to King Winter make the trip to the blade, to make their way up to the shrine located there. Artists of many varieties will also make the trek, or potentially the climb to higher areas in hopes of seeing what is well known as one of Imeria's most inspiring views.
