Delver's Syndrome

Among the dangers of the Labyrinth, perhaps the most frightening and without a doubt the greatest hurdle to exploring its depths would be the illness that affects those who reach the furthest layers of that mysterious place. Commonly known as Delver's Syndrome, as those are the people that are affected by the illness, the first signs of the illness are almost imperceptible. Merely a desire to delve deeper into the labyrinth. Eventually the desire grows to the point that it will endanger not only the infected, but their fellow delvers. Other symptoms include mild euphoria, insomnia, and a hard to define connection with the labyrinth itself. It should be noted that delving companies, major and minor alike, use such individuals who have developed this connection to determine new entrances into the labyrinth, despite the moral and legal ambiguity of using employing the infected in such a manner.   Yet, when the infected individuals were forcefully kept from the Labyrinth, additional symptoms began to arise. In this regard, those affected by the syndrome behave as if they were suffering withdraw from an addiction: showing agitation, aggressive and paranoid tendencies. Further complicating their treatment, the patients are skilled delvers and keeping them from the Labyrinth proves not only difficult but also dangerous to the staff.   Current studies fail to see results in all but the most powerful of magics, be they divine or arcane in nature. However research in the silvery material found between layers in the labyrinth do show some promise. A sample of the material is included with this message. Any additional insights you and the House of Erithus  may find would be appreciated.
