Personal history

CW: human sacrifice

While she was growing up, Seirilia did not realize that her parents were cultists. Overall, her family led a very solitary, mundane farming life, shunned by villagers suspicious of their tiefling blood (or so she assumed). She later realized their distrust was more likely due to her parents’ shady activities and aura of low-level evil than any true racism on the part of the villagers. Perhaps she should have picked up on it sooner, but she was just so accustomed to being left at home alone and her parents returning covered in blood-stained red clothes that it never occurred to her until she herself was old enough to be inducted that perhaps there was something more… malicious going on.   On her 16th birthday, Seirilia's parents gifted her with a lovely red-bladed dagger and led her to an abandoned mine outside of town. Of course, the mine was far less abandoned than she ever would have imagined.   Kneeling around an altar deep in the mine were a half-dozen red-robed figures, each holding the end of a chain attached to a bound, struggling, screaming young woman stretched out on the stained stone.   Seirilia may have been ignorant of her parents’ activities, but she was far from a fool, and she knew what was being asked of her with the gift of the red blade. She dropped the sacrificial dagger and fled, running harder and faster than she ever had from her cursing parents and the screams of that young woman.   Unsure of her parents’ motives, or if they were searching for her, Seirilia joined the Falondan Army, hoping to disappear into the anonymity of the ranks. She vowed that she would never be caught unawares again, and dedicated herself to the Intelligence Branch, spying, winning covert allies, gathering information on suspicious people, and eliminating threats to the crown. Her knack for stealth and tracking made her a natural scout, and her sharp tongue won her respect. She was assigned missions that honed her skills and allowed her fast promotion through the ranks.   When the Corvinians launched a surprise assault on the eastern border, Seirilia was one of the first scouts on the front lines. Prince Edmund de Falondis, the young and untested Commander of the Falondan forces, had requested her personally, having read several of her dossiers on Corvinian nobles. Seirilia was among Edmund’s closest advisors during the War, and when a frighteningly young female tabaxi entered the camp, demanding to serve in the fight and refusing to take ‘no’ for an answer, she was assigned as an informal mentor. Seirilia and Sky Full Of Stars became close friends — a relationship went beyond mere comrades-in-arms — and when the War ended, they remained as such.   Seirilia came out the other side of the Falondan-Corvinian War highly decorated with honors and she continued to serve in the Army for the next twenty years. As she advanced, she learned more about manipulating people and the art of the lie than she sometimes felt comfortable with, but it served her well as she became more and more involved in the politics of court. Though she always carried the fear of her parents, she knew now that she had the power and influence to defend herself if they resurfaced.   There was always something Seirilia did not like about certain members of the royal family, as well as the tiefling Arcane Advisor appointed by the Queen. Unfortunately she was unable to ever prove any hidden agenda and with the death of King Levondel and disappearance of Princess Euna, she had far more important things to handle. She personally led scouting parties in search of the missing princess, to no avail, but felt a shiver of trepidation when Princess Euna returned to the city and reclaimed the throne Prince Edmund had been reluctantly occupying. Though she could not identify the source of her dread at first, her infernal heritage told her instinctively what storm was approaching when she began to see the deep red banners of Asmodeus cover the city.
