Wizard

As seen in
A generic term for a user of magic. Often one who has studied at a school of the Magical Arts.

I like to think of the difference between Witches and Wizards as an almost Generational feud. Wizards are, of course, ones more in tune with the modern way of doing things, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just as Witches are more accustomed to the old ways, the blood magic ways, and there's nothing wrong with that either. Really it all comes down to the simple choice between which school of belief you follow. Though we no longer teach the Witch track any more.

First Founding

The founding of the first school of Wizards and Witches occurred during the second moon of the third Harvest. This means largely nothing to most people, and as such its actual founding date has since been lost to time. However, we can deduce that Magic in its modern form did not arrive until the Wizard Morgan and his companions joined forces with the Witch Artessa and began to spread knowledge of the new and improved forms of magic with the people (1098 CE).

Magic before had was handled in a very simple, albeit bloody, manner. Most magic was performed by the priests and clerics of the major churches, with similar forms being conducted by Witches in the outskirts of the major cities and in the outer lying villages without a Doctor. Most forms of magic practiced in those places rely quite heavily on the use of Blood magic and Blood Sacrifice.

Early History

The early days of magic saw the Academy's around the world teaching Blood Magic and Sacrificial Magics to the well trained and higher members of society. Magic was seen as a terrible, if always powerful, option and component of the world. However, many also saw the usage as an affront to the gods; going against their wishes and creating a world beyond their control. For a while the belief that magic would create an alternative reality was held in high regard as a possible situation that society would find itself in.

Early Witches and Wizards were kept well abreast of the knowledge of the day, were taught alchemical concoctions and components (something they would have to memorize as well), and were required to keep tinctures on their person that could be used to cast spells quickly. Most of this knowledge came from the benevolent and powerful sect of Sampri-Satomonous. They claim to have been the ones to help bring magic into the world.

Modern History

Wizard Badge! by CoolG
After the Separation of Magics (1098 CE), an act that was the result of the Wizard Morgan and Witch Artessa combining forces and teaching the world a new way of doing things, the differing schools became better funded and open to more than just the elite and wealthy members of society. They were, instead, opened up to the public and funded by the Government in addition to the funding provided by the wealthy and more noble houses. This led to a feud between the two classes, and though it is unfortunate, other schools were created that catered to a more exclusive clientele.

Though not all of the Nobility removed themselves from the newly minted "Public Institutes of Magic", enough did so that half of the public academy's had to downsize into a more manageable institution able to handle the inflow and outflow of people. Magical Companies, originally created on the backs of the more dangerous and deadly groups, shifted their focus into a more modern appearance and began to offer new and improved products.

Additional requirements may be made depending on the given track the student wishes to go down. Career Progression

Wizards progress through the ranks very similarly to Adventurers. Those with talent in spades are often increased to the Rank of Tier Two Wizard. The progression system only follows the paths of the Adventurers because It was established by the Adventurer Managers, in an attempt to come up with universal system that worked well for each profession. Many of the larger, more combat or esoteric focused, professions follow a similar path to that of the Adventurers and Wizards. Witches, notably, are the only profession that excludes itself from the modern day forms of Progression and Presentation.

Entry Level Wizards

Beginner Class

Wizards just starting their career into the magical arts often find themselves at a loss for what or how to create magic. Of course this is where the act of attending an Academy comes in so handy, as they handle the majority of the teaching and learning elements. However "Beginner" Class wizards are ones that have not attended an Academy and are instead just members of the population with a number of strange Magical traits that effect their day-to-day lives.

Student Class

Wizards of the "Student" Class have a few things over their counterparts in the "Beginner" field. Most in the field of the "Student" Wizards are well trained and taught at Magical Academies throughout the world. Often times they present themselves with honor and dignity, though half of that is either trained or bred into them. Wizards of the "Student" Class also are the least likely to participate in Blood Magics or any of the other, stranger magics that exist in the world. Mostly due to the ability to train with them and learn their weaknesses during their days in school.

Notable Schools

First School: The first Academy of Magic dates back to the early days of the Second Empire of Grenkortious the Bold, who founded the Academy of Grenk for the Magical "Students" he would come across in his expansion. Grenk Academy would go on to become the number one school of the Magical Arts in all of Ghristlin, placing it at a respectable 3rd amongst all Academies in the whole of the Continents.
Most Popular: The Most Popular Academy on the Continent of Ghristlin is the Weasleburrough Academy for Witches and Wizards. While not providing the most extensive education, albeit possibly more robust than others, the Academy is often the sight of great and terrible events. Dangers of previous years include Giant Snakes, False Teachers, and Evil Wizards sneaking in after dark to wreak havoc throughout the Academy Grounds. Even still, between the teachers, students, and adventures, the Wizards and Witches that leave the Academy of Weasleburrough are often amongst the best and brightest, and claim this is due to the rigors of the education they are forced to use to survive.
Least Popular: While it is of no pleasure to anyone to be attending the least popular establishment of Magical Learning in the known Continent, it does still provide a quality education. Mike Slyths Academy for Gifted Youngsters is rated, currently they would like us to add, as the worst Magical School to attend throughout the Continent. While the education and teaching is sound, and the Academy Grounds are beautiful, the teachers are vulgar and short tempered. Often using magic as a form of punishment on students, the graduates of Slyths Academy tend to have a chip on their shoulder.

Wizards in the Public

Barnibus "S.O.T.O." Bob: A famous engineer and wizard. Whether you know him from his Mobile Homes, or his , Bob is well known throughout the Guilds and among the Adventurers. While he started as a small time producer of magic items, his breakthrough into creating homes propelled him far into popularity and wealth.
Cronelious Grouse: Famed Explorer, Wizard, Baker, Philanthropist, and Chef! Who hasn't heard of Cronelious Grouse? Certainly you've heard of his work in opening the Fowl Water Duck Sanctuary, or about his work fighting alongside a Descendant of the Great General Aurelious. Cronelious was also one of the first Wizards to combine their Baking with Magic post Separation of Styles (Circa 1098 CE). Over the past few years his work has fallen largely out of vogue as his students have slowly begun to take center stage.
Dontious: While not the most powerful Wizard to have ever existed, Dontious De Maxious was instrumental to the construction of each Magical Academy. While she was not commonly the most pleasant to work with either, she was the brightest wizard to have existed in the days of Academy Creation. She was responsible for the Defensive spells and enchantments that surround a majority of the older Academies on the continent.
