Gravestalk Root

Gravestalk Root is a peculiar plant native to Caldera, growing upside-down from the ceilings of the planet’s volcanic caverns. Resembling solid rock on the outside, it conceals a fleshy interior that serves as a staple in Calderan cuisine. While the root’s tough exterior renders it inedible to most species without special preparation, Calderans’ mineral-adapted physiology allows them to consume it easily. Gravestalk Root is a vital and accessible food source, reflecting the planet’s unique and resourceful ecosystem.

History

Gravestalk Root was cultivated by Calderans for thousands of years. In 70 3E, when The Chosen Nine were invited to a feast with the Calderans, Alan chose to only eat the Gravestalk Root. Later, the Chosen Nine decided to evacuate the Calderans. Ob'Sidra agreed, but only if they could bring a supply of food with them. They brought a supply of Gravestalk Root and were able to make it grow on Illon.
