Pre-War
Dragons both chromatic and metallic have been around for thousands of years. Most of the people of Ikeshia would not even know they existed for they mainly kept to themselves. Both chromatic and metallic dragons had their own ideas of how they wished to live in Ikeshia and that was fine for a while. They weren't a major problem as dragons. There was the occasional theft of a sheep of cow brought to a chromatic dragon lair. A few adventurers who wanted to seek glory going into a dragons lair. As dragons they could recognize the capabilities and powerful individuals or of people in great numbers and so they stayed relatively hidden. But it was when they could shapeshift into humans and assume a role in society, it became... messy. Although they were much more powerful in their dragon form they could do more in their human form. Whether that be to protect the humanoids of Ikeshia, or destroy them.
Two hundred years before the war things in Ikeshia began to shift in Ikeshia. Cults were rising up, new questionable religions were formed and the people were not at ease. The word dragon was more apparent on their lips as rumors began to spread of evil doings. It was unknown to most that dragons could in fact shapeshift into any form they choose. Villages and towns were under attack by both humans and dragons alike. It was also quite unheard of for chromatic dragons to work together, but the timing and attacks on the towns could not have been coincidental. So the metallic drgaons began to take notice and also worked together to end this threat.
They first tried negotiation. They didn't understand why there was a sudden urge to make themselves known and destroy. The answer was simply boredom, arrogance, superiority. They did not feel they needed to negotiate anything, but take what belonged to them. After negotiations failed, the metallic dragons needed a plan. But before they could make one the entire city of Hark was destroyed by dragons and cultists alike. There were said to be no survivors as the city was demolished and left nothing but ash. This is when the war began.
