Master Explorer Jyo

Excerpt from recording of the Ryukyuri Ryudai class held by Master Historian Cook   While the Islanders have modes of air transportation among islands in the chain, preference for sea travel is prevalent. Distances to the west are unknown and the airships are only so far able to stay aloft until they reach 'The Bubble'. Master Explorer Jyo took several expeditions with both sea and airships and barely survived the largest expedition he funded, hence why we do not take airships outside the Islands, which will be our topic during this brief class today.   Master Explorer Jyo saved all his coin to have five ocean going ships of various sizes and each of the four sizes of airships travel together to the west as both a test of the bubble, and if they made it through, to bring back untold wealth of treasure in both knowledge and materials.   A spectator to this air and sea armada would have thought the Islanders were preparing to go invade a neighbor, but on closer inspection would realize they are woefully under equipped and manned. Two of the four airships were in fact unmanned as Master Explorer Jyo was a highly practical individual from the Natural World and didn’t want to jeopardize peoples lives unnecessarily.   The two largest airships were towing the two smaller crafts held aloft by an 'almost-perpetual' suspension system. Has anyone taken Master Scientist Reimeryo's classes yet?   a few hands in the theater raise.   Excellent. I will continue, but the rest of you should take at least one class of his, he has such a grasp of things.   Now, where was I...the ships on water were manned only enough to ensure navigation and proper sailing and equipped to maintain speed with the air ships in case of errant winds.   As the formation moved across the seas and approached the edge, Master Explorer Jyo noted that the larger airship had faltered and began descending while the smaller ships continued to proceed through the veil. Shortly afterward once the smaller ships had passed through they to began to descend but never fully touched the sea, sailing over the larger ships which had slow to what Master Explorer Jyo called 'turtle speed'.   Of course, the sea vessels had little trouble making the transition across the envelope just as many others had done in the past.   One curious thing that Master Explorer Jyo is known to have done though was to ensure he had Ryukyuri cats onboard each water borne ship for safety. That being the only difference between the sea and air crafts that he had made note of in his journals.   He thought to try another time with the felines aboard the flying crafts, but dismissed it out of hand as to risky to the creatures as the fabric craftsmen couldn’t make flying-floating jackets small enough for the independently minded creatures as they were prone to wriggle out of, or tear, or cut, or bite...anything put on their person.   sound of the class bell, and people rustling, recording stops.
