Lobber

The Vapor Peaks are home to many fascinating new creatures, many of which yet unknown. But one of the first deadly encounters on the Mountains was that of my own party.

First Scouting Missions

Me and my team were part of the first wave of Scouting Quests that explored the Vapor Peaks. Since we were used to extreme conditions and pride ourselves on our high adaptability to new situations, we were tasked to investigate the "Rockfall Caves". We dubbed this place that way because, as we found out, in the countless caves that occupy this region, deadly spider-like mutants reside that throw loose rocks at invading people. They are highly aggressive and territorial and attack anything that is not of their origin.

Our Head-On Experience

As we first approached the fields, we were greeted by a barrage of cannonball-sized rocks raining down on us. We were able to take shelter inside a cave entrance quickly, where we then met the catapults themselves. Huge, and I mean dwarf long huge, spiders. They had camouflaged grey-brown skin and a huge pickaxe of a tail. They attacked us on sight. Some of them engaged us in melee combat while others almost effortlessly dug out boulders with their tail to throw at us. The pickaxe then shapeshifted into a kind of shovel and launched the rocks at us.

Coutermeasurements

We were able to adapt to the situation, put up a temporary barrier and isolate the melee Lobbers, killing them. Once done, we could focus on the ranged combatants.
Appendix #1 - Anatomy: Cutting off their heads is a waste of time, since the obvious big head is just a lump of recolored skin and does not contain any vital parts of the Lobber, which are cleverly hidden on the underside of the beast!
Scientific Name
Arthropoda Araenae Araneidae Saxum

Environmental Appearance

After this skirmish, we went on to encounter many more of this species in the same region. Although we ourselves have not seen them anywhere else, we have gotten word from other mountain delving Soulventures that they have sighted similar beasts in any mountain setting with softer stone. Noteable Materials here would be Limestone, Talc or Marble. Their Pickaxe Tails are strong and dureable, but they have their limits as well.
