Crystaria

Species Discovery Report, 8R5C, 7 AFA, Mineral Monster
With the recent scouting expeditions towards the Vapor Peaks, we have discovered a new territorial species covered and made entirely of crystals.

Behavioural Study

We encountered these monsters in spacious caves. While they were initially passive and alert to our approach, they became very territorial and aggressive once we entered their domain. They would attack and chase us out of their homes, proving a basic amount of intelligence. As for the attacks, we discovered they had tails hidden from view and pierced us with its sharp rapier-like tip. They could also reshape their crystal bumps to become sharper and deadlier. We were lucky to run away and not be surrounded by them.

Physical Study

We managed to capture one of these crystal beasts and asked our Biomagi Engineer colleagues for further research. They reported that the "Crystaria", as they dubbed these critters, were magical arthropods with a very soft skin. Presumably after birth, they start to grow crystals on their body similar to how humans grow beards as protective layers. These crystals grow throughout the lives of the Crystaria and are shed periodically, though our Biomagi Engineers could not give timespan specifics. Since the crystals seem to be magically charged and have some very interesting properties of their own, it begs to question: how and where would these shedded crystals be stored and could we use them as natural ressources?

Appendix #1, Prolonged Studies
As we continued our wildlife scouting from afar, we could discern a crystal shedding cycle of about two months. A Crystaria goes deep inside the cave and comes back to the surface after around two days with smaller fresher crystals on its skin.
