Niafell

Geography

Spanning for many miles, this desert isn't what first comes to mind. It is neither sandy nor hot. This desert if you can call it that, is a region of the world that was lush with trees, plant, and animal life, but now is almost like a still photo. All of the features are still present, but none of the life. Trees and forests abound, but no leaves. What used to be ferns are now shriveled up, the word wasteland might be a more apt description for what is Niafell.

A few brooks bubble at the surface, but the water has been tainted, unable to be drunk. As there are no animals to hunt, no berries and vegetables to gather, it is an incredibly unwelcoming and harsh landscape to call home. One tribe managed to find a way to live in Niafell, the The Niafell Genasi. Surviving for many years in this desert, they learned how to find water below ground before it reached the surface becoming unusable. They found new ways to turn the soil into farmland, surprisingly it was very fertile if done correctly. How did they find seeds and meat you ask? Well I would think the answer obvious, they brought it with them when Niafell was settled.

History

Settled long before anyone can remember, by the time this land was "discovered" by other travelers from Iedar Tegon, the Niafell Genasi already lived here. Cultivating a rare spice, Yatir, as well as a blue variety of DragonFyre dye, they trade for any outside goods like silk and other specialty items for their crops. Due to the harsh terrain, it is quite the journey that is undertaken by the Genasi to the nearest port for trade. A small town was erected by the port as a place to temporarily stay and rejuvinate before trekking back.
