The Frozen Woods

Far in the north of Awira, a massive forest stretches for hundreds of miles. From the peaks of the Razorwind Mountains to the perilous waters of the Crystal Waves, the Frozen Forest appears to have earned its name well. But if you were brave or foolish enough to venture deep into the woods, you might just find something different.   The Frozen Woods is home to the Aewyn people, the last of the Firbolgs. It is here the denizens of Feywild peacefully commune with the inhabitants of the Material Plane, a tradition long since dead in the rest of the world.

Flora & Fauna

Native Plants and Wildlife

The frigid northern region of Awira is dominated by coniferous trees, primarily pines. The undergrowth includes a variety of large and small shrubs as well as several different winterberry bushes.   The civilized people of the area are the reclusive firbolg, who live in small communities of five to ten families. These communities tend to arrange themselves relative to others in a series of concentric circles. Should you happen across one, another is likely not too far off. Other animal life includes deer, elk, wolfs, bears, foxes, hawks, eagles, and a multitude of other common sightings within forests.
Thirty years I've been exploring and making maps for them. I–if it weren't for me, they would have gone out of business years ago! Well, I won't let them have the last word. I'll go back there and bring back a dozen of those tropical birds, and maybe even one of those tiny winged people I saw!

Foreign Visitors

What makes the Frozen Woods stand out from your ordinary forest is its connection to the Feywild. As the firbolg tend to the health and stability of these connections, small ephemeral portals open up. When this happens tropical trees begin to sprout and some appear out of seemingly nowhere, fully grown. Creatures native to the Feywild begin wandering and hunting in the woods – from the mischievous pixies to the majestic unicorn to the shy and enchanting dryads.
