The Jazyart Confederation

In between the Vulgar Empire’s Southern forests and the Evergnon kingdom’s canyons and mountains lie the plains, swamps and hills in which the Jazyart tribes roam. While only a couple of cities exist in these plains, one of which is the not unsubstantial Ongyur, most of the population lives a simpler existence. Dozens of tribes roam these lands, each with their own customs, languages, gods and traditions, riding on horse or Murk against one another and against the nations surrounding them. Occasionally, however, the Yarts that lead the many tribes unite under a single Great Yart, to launch great raids against a neighbour in time’s of weakness. Whether it be the rich farmlands of Kingdom of Evergnon, the more submissive vassals of the Vulgar, or the easternmost governates of the Dominion, they ride down their enemies, hurl rocks from catapults, and may even build ships to raid the islands such as the Xu or Sulla, though they rarely have any success there. The existence of these hostile people’s is the reason for the great forts of Evergnon, the Great moats of Vulgar, and the Dominion’s Grey Guard.   In the most recent age, however, the Great Yart Cyxi has managed to reunite the confederation after centuries of division, using conquest, diplomacy, and a powerful new backer. His eyes first set to the south, and then to the west.

Structure

Recently united under Cyxi’s rule, the tributary tribes possess more autonomy than many other nations, though besides this they have their own customs and values, varying with their habitats. Often warring amongst one another, a strongman like Cyxi has granted them a serious chance against their neighbours.

Demography and Population

With the only cities being Ongyur and Slamdur, the vast majority of the population lives off the land as part of nomadic tribes, with only those living outside of the cities engaging in farming, as little land is suitable for it in the plains.

Military

The total size of a united Jazyart army has not been calculated, but given that the second most successful Yart after Cyxi, Dosi, was able to raise an army of more than seventeen thousand men and their horses to attack Vulgar, they are certainly of a considerable size.
