Ongyur

A recently formed city of nomads, Ongyur was previously a collection of villages that periodically grew to city status repeatedly over the years, whenever the Jazyart united, only to seperate again when the Grand Yart died and his neighbouring tribes collapsed due to lack of success. Now, however, they are larger than ever, a full blown city ready to find conquests and plunder.

Government

Operating under tribal law, the various clans operate their own lands mostly autonomously, while paying tribute to the Grand Yart and asking favours on new lands gained over one another. Thus, a Yart’s life consists of carefully balancing diplomacy and favours between the tribes, ensuring one does not become too powerful or the others too weak and resentful. Many an attempted Great Yart have failed to acknowledge this, and so have fallen.

Defences

Being mainly made of nomadic tents, Ongyur has little in the way of stone defenses, mainly relying on its defenders and the terrain. Considered a historically important site, most of the tribes prefer negotiation here.

Industry & Trade

Blacksmiths, traders and diplomats often come to this region of the world to trade with tribes and negotiate contracts. Some tribes may sell their services for a time as with mercenaries, though this is only temporary. A few may even be offered land and pastures elsewhere in exchange for settling down and assimilating into the culture.

History

The ‘city’ has been repeatedly colonised and abandoned over the past sixteen-hundred years, serving a practically ceremonial role for the Jazyart tribes. It has been prophecies that the city will one day be permanent when a Yart manages to conquer all of Tzunar under his rule. Due to being a place more than a proper city, this is easy to set up, and it is likely that the city has been colonised, abandoned and resettled at least a dozen times before Cyxi.
