Humans

One thing you'd do good to remember: never underestimate the humans. They will go above and beyond just to prove you wrong.
— Turan, Xsi-Shin Warlord
Without a doubt the most successful species Andromeda has seen in times, Humanity has grown far from its terrestrial origins. They can be found in almost every quarter of known space as explorers, adventurers, traders and conquerors. And similar to how most species eventually learn to fear the Krigan, they will learn to never underestimate the bipedal monkeys from Eden, as they are so fondly known.

Bipedal Monkeys

Humans are a species of mammalian origin that emerged around 400.000 years ago. They evolved on the planet known as Eden, where they developed from and with other mammalian species known as Apes. With the exception of insectoid races, Humanity shows the greatest amount of intraspecies variety out of all sentient organisms. While all Humans share the same basic build, two arms, legs, eyes and one head, they can vary greatly in terms of height, skin tone, mass, body type, eye colour and hair color. They are sexually dimorphic, females usually being smaller and having less muscle mass.

Galactic Diaspora

On Eden, located in the northern reaches of the Pleijaden Arm, Humanity found itself largely removed from galactic affairs. As such the fledgeling species, whose various nation-states achieved spaceflight during the 24th century, managed to evade the cataclysmic climax of the Age of the Burning Skies and took advantage of the resulting power vacuum. This First Age of Expansion came to an end in 2407 AD, when an alien species known as the Infernals invaded human space and destroyed much of it including Eden. As a result, Humanity began to spread out of the Outer Rim in what became known as the Human Migrations. Lasting until the 28th century, they would see Humanity come into conflict with a myriad of alien species. Many of these would either be destroyed or driven off.   Historical records show nearly a hundred different human states existing throughout the period. Through war or diplomacy, these would coalesce into larger entities over time. The most famous example is without a doubt the Stellar Confederacy, which came into being during the first Krigan-Human War in 2644 AD. As of 3000 AD, there are a dozen human nations in Andromeda, making Humanity the species with the greatest presence on the galactic plane.

Many Faces

Industrious

One key to their success is the fact that Humans are able to thrive in pretty much every occupation imaginable. Unless it concerns very specific niches, there is no trade in the galaxy that Humans aren't involved in. Be it through working hard or smart, they are known to succeed, even if takes a dozen attempts to do so. Added to that, their moral flexibility makes them ideal business partners.
Curious

While collectively not nearly as intelligent as the Ska'Ani or Lyragi, Humans are known to excel in various scientific fields. Seen as extraordinarily curious, a trait which has brought them arguably more trouble over the centuries than benefit, Humans are famous for their widespread exploration. Common saying is that wherever you will go, a Human will have been there before you. For better or for worse in some cases.
Warlike

If Humanity is famous for its curious spirit, it is definitely infamous for its warlike nature. The human species possess a natural aggression that is unmatched by any species but the Krigan and combined with stubbornness, tenacity and unpredictability makes them a nightmare to fight. While known to employ almost every type of warfare, Humans excel in the use of Directed-Energy Weapons and Photonic Shields.
Often described as the "allrounder" among Andromeda's species, Humanity has successfully carved itself a place in the universe. This is just as much due to luck as it is due to hard work and tenacity as quite often, Humans are their own worst enemy. One reason why they have not taken over the galaxy, despite repeated claims by alien propagandists, is that Humans love to fight each other. They are somewhat unique in that they are one of only a handful of species that has never been unified under a single banner. To some, this may be a relief, but there is no denying that unity or not, Humanity is a force to be reckoned with.
A unified Humanity? Don't make me laugh! That's about as likely as the Ska'Ani becoming a religious cult or Xsi-Shin abandoning their idiotic concepts of honour.

Xenophobia   Humans argue over a myriad of topics and separate themselves into a vast array of religious and political groups. One thing the vast majority of them can agree on is to be wary of alien species. While it varies in degree, xenophobia is a basic attitude of Humanity. It has lessened in recent centuries, allowing for a myriad of diplomatic and business relations to form. Still, Humans prefer to stay among themselves when staying in other nations. It is theorized that this collective attitude emerged during the collapse of the first Human nations and was reinforced by almost four centuries of uninterrupted warfare with hostile aliens.   Mysterious Invaders   The Infernals are one of the great mysteries of the Andromeda Galaxy. In the early 25th century, they carved a path of destruction throughout the eastern edge of the galactic plane culminating in the Scouring of Eden. Despite their infamy, there is pretty much nothing known about them. Any records aside from scarce mentions regarding their tactics have been lost during the early days of the Human Migrations.

Interesting look at the future of the human race, you do a good job being very critical about your own species. I especially love the Xenophobia sidebar!
