The Sky Leopards spine

"Do you see there my child?" two relaxed cat-like figures are walking down what appears to be a hiking trail. They both have loose grey and green clothing on that blends with their speckled fur and the billowing mists. One is noticeably smaller than the other. "What father, the waterfall?" Indeed much up the mist in the area is thrown up from the crashing waters, a massive spire of darkly colored rock just out from the bottom of the falls splitting the river in two. "Yes child, but really I mean that spire there that cuts the river up." The child's ear flicks irritated. "Of course father it is rather hard to miss, is there something special about it?"
"Yes, it is part of the Star Leopard's spine."
  "Their SPINE?"
"Yes their spine." he continues down the trail child following close, "Long ago the Star Leopard was embroiled in a conflict with evil and selfish gods and flew out with his siblings to do battle. When he was struck down, wounded horribly, he buried himself under the soil and grew this forest up over himself."

"Is he still alive?"

"I don't know, I'm not sure if alive means the same thing to him as it does to us."

History

Up in the twisting roots and bows of the Blackhound Rainforest history looks a little different to the Pumard. Tales are told from speaker to speaker with a consistency unrivaled by the rest of Avermundi, not a too much of a surprise when the moist air destroys paper based records and rain erodes stone plates.
As such the accuracy of all Pumard myths is debated amongst scholars bitterly, this one being no exception.
