Hyvamaan Feast of Plenty

These are the records of the Researcher Cenelgadan, in service of the Sage Anduiniondir. I was sent to document the practices of the clans of Hyvamaa...   In high summer, the peak of the natural bounty of Hyvamaa, the clans gather to celebrate the richness of the region...

Record #23

This record documents a conversation with a warrior of the Viisas clan and presents his words for the record, documented by Cenelgadan.

The words of Vartija, a warrior of Viisas

When is the festival?   "We gather the clans when Dagstjarna is hottest and food falls from trees and jumps from lake. We all work to make enough piirakka to feed three clans and then we eat them. The Festival takes many days. We can do this because Drekistjarna brought us to this place, and Glitastjarna agreed to let us stay."   Is the festival just about eating?   "We take turns, because someone must watch forest. The oldest clan is Vanha, they go first and we guard them while they eat. Vahva goes next, and we guard them while they eat. When it is Viisas turn, they guard us while we eat."   Does everyone eat at once?   "The most important members of tribe go first and have first choice of piirakka. When it is my turn, I feast on piirakka until my belly is stretched, two or three days. Then I lie in sun until my belly is not stretched any more."   Then what happens?   "Feast is over. Then go back to normal life."   What is your normal life?   "I am guard of Viisas. It is easy work after Feast of Plenty."   Why is that?   "Everyone from clans are happy after feast and they do not fight. And there are no more prisoners to guard. Prisoners make best piirakka! Guard of Viisas have easy life after feast."

Here ends the record.

Culinary Research
Sage Anduiniondir and their research team have collated vast documentation about the national, regional, and local festivals of the people of Liggjavard. To that end, and despite their own rather plain tastes, the Sage has built what may be the most complete culinary library in history at the College of People in Rothilimion.
