Ultrablack

The Ultrablack is a species of gigantic Abyssal fauna native to Reminia. Their namesake comes from their superdark skin. In the absence of ocean depths, Ultrablacks possess the ability to navigate through the air. They are known to settle in the Frxaken Rift, although they are assumed to reside in other locations of Reminia.

Anatomy

Ultrablacks have sleek, elongated bodies, large heads, and mouths equipped with many, sharp, fang-like teeth. Within their bodies, Ultrablacks have an intricate network of gas bladders that allow them to control their buoyancy with precision. They also have bioluminescent barbels to communicate with potential mates and locate prey.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Ultrablacks possess black skin that absorbs almost all visible light, resulting in their characteristic, superdark colouration. This gives them enhanced camouflage in their dark environment.

Growth Rate & Stages

Ultrablacks are classified into three stages:

• Megablack - An adolescent ultrablack. Reminian Hoomans are encouraged to kill the Ultrablacks at this stage to prevent them from developing into the much more dangerous Vantablacks.
• Ultrablack- A fully matured Ultrablack.
• Vantablack - The oldest, most powerful of the Ultrablack species, extremely large in size. They become so large that they are unable to use their gas bladders and instead navigate the environment on land. Vantablacks are widely feared as one of the most dangerous and powerful creatures on Reminia due to their legendary size and strength. One reminder of their might is the destruction of the Gibbous colony, wiped out by a single Vantablack.

It is rare for Ultrablacks to reach Vantablack stage due to the harsh environment, leading to extremely few known Vantablacks in the area.

Behaviour

Ultrablacks are notorious for being ambush predators. When hunting, Ultrablacks will patrol in search of prey and, once located, will strike swiftly, using a combination of speed and surprise to secure their meal.
Their elongated jaws allow them to consume large prey, the range of targets they can consume increasing as they grow in age and size.

Uses & Products

Like most things on Reminia, Hoomans have figured out how consume Ultrablacks with proper food preparation. While dangerous to collect, Ultrablack eggs can also be eaten.
Ultrablack teeth also hold a variety of uses, with smaller teeth used for sewing, and larger teeth being fashioned into weaponry like knives.
