Homeworld Wattled Bat
The Wattled bat is a species of bat that lives on Homeworld that have been domesticated by the Hoomans.
They commonly live in caverns and cliffs, however also have taken a liking with living in buildings and towers.
If a Hooman is seen abusing a wattled bat, they are to be reported to the Law Enforcement and Security Sector and arrested.
Appearance
Wattled bats are typically black or grey furred, and have wider wings. They have small sharp teeth which they use to munch down on insects.Lifecycle
In the winter, the wattled bats less active and if the climate is too cold then they will hibernate. In the spring is when the female bats develop maternity roosts and the males are more likely to be outside catching insects. In the autumn, bat activity increases as the wattled bats are looking for mates.Domestication
Hoomans developed a fondness for bats as they remind them of younglins with their small teeth. They also use the bats to keep insect activity low, whether it's near the home, or on mass with helping with agricultural crops. The wattled bat became a popular option as they were easy to domesticate, with a lot of households keeping them as pets. These wattled bats are given large bat boxes or spaces in the attic to rest in and have access to both the inside of the house and the outdoors. Depending on how they are treated, some bats will develop a fondness for specific hoomans, landing and crawling on them, or cuddling up to them. While some of the bats eventually do leave the home to go elsewhere, it is common for generations of bats to stay with the same household of hoomans.Dos and Don'ts
Even though the wattled bats are very popular to keep, there are many dos and don't that are involved in keeping them to make sure they live well:Do
- Have resting spots throughout the house, for the bats to stay on if they wish.
- Give them a base supply of food if insect activity is unusually low.
- Call for a vet if the bats are showing signs of sickness or unusual behaviour.
Don't
- Don't force them to stay inside the house. The bats need to have access to the outside.
- Don't handle the bats roughly, they are still small delicate creatures.
- Don't buy a single bat as a pet. The bats are very social creatures and will become very lonely, if not just leaving altogether.
