Philadelphion

Scholar's Quarter

Amid the twisting alleys and jostled together walkups, a high, iron-rod gate holds back the encroaching urbanity from a large green park. A series of tiled, domed buildings lie within the park alongside fine marble fountains and cobblestone walkways. Masters of the sciences and arts mill about on the grounds as students in bright robes follow eager to soak up the knowledge of their betters.

Purpose / Function

Located almost in the dead center of the current city, the Philadelphion is the world’s oldest school. Upon its hallowed grounds students can learn from masters of philosophy, rhetoric, law, medicine, astronomy, mathematics, history, and literature.

History

Following the Sundering Arcana, the Philadelphion began teaching students about the processes of magic. It founded the prestigious the College of Mysteries. The College is the newest school and also the most controversial. Only seventy years old, the College has been the subject of investigations and public distrust as the highly religious population of Iskendra dislikes the presence of an institution so closely associated with the legacy of the Sundering Arcana.   The College of Mysteries has very few students and fewer faculty, yet enrollment continues to grow, especially thanks to the interests of some of the Imperial administration, who hope to use arcane technology to boost their military and economic power.
