Maurice Chauvent

Helm Maurice Chauvent

Maurice Chauvent is a Pilgrim male human priest of Falerian ancestry. He first appeared in the Nights Under Nioa Stars campaign in Season 1 Episode 5 "Of Baubles & Babes."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Maurice Chauvent is a male human of medium height. He has long salt & pepper hair and pale skin made ruddy by the sun. He wears the vestments of a Helm of Rashi, though they have been battered by the elements since his encounter with the golden gryphons of the Harraken Ridge.

Apparel & Accessories

Maurice carries with him a blessed trident of Rashi as his primary weapon.   His holy symbol is actually a ram's horn, which could also be used as a bardic instrument. However, Maurice only blows the horn when casting cleric spells from a distance. Otherwise, he summons divine magic out of the horn's opening, drawing the smoke-like magic out of the hole with his prayers and directing it with his fingers.

Personal history

Maurice Chauvent was born to a pair of Pilgrim crusaders. His parents both served in the First Pilgrim War and eventually came to settle down in the Migdal Valley outside of Jeharoa.   Farming the plains of the Migdal is difficult work and rain falls intermittently. His parents were inexperienced in agriculture and struggled to make ends meet. At some point, Maurice's mother sent him to give alms to the Rainbringer in Jeharoa. There he met the ensigns or acolytes of Rashi and felt a connection to them. With his parents permission, Maurice left the farm a few years later to join the Church of Rashi.   As an acolyte of Rashi, he spent much of his early training at the Sunstair Sanctum in Jeharoa. Eventually, his request to train with other higher members of the clergy was granted and Maurice left to learn more at the Anchorage at Tyria. For several years, he even served as a surgeon and chaplain aboard a Tyrian dromon called the Olive Branch. It was during this time that Maurice learned to fight with a trident.   After seven years on the high seas and feeling the sheer power of Telerashi, Maurice returned to Jeharoa as a full Helm in the goddess's service. He came to be a prominent member of the faith in the Holy City, though his focus shifted from the vengeful form of the Dual Goddess to the more merciful fertility deity he'd originally been drawn to.   On the 19th of Fair Clouds, 361 S.E., Maurice left the city of Jeharoa with a horse and two mules to give alms at an ancient Palladian shrine to Rashi. The shrine was said to be deep in the Harraken Ridge, close to Mount Rehbo. However, due to its inaccessible nature, few of the faithful traveled there. Along the way, Maurice was attacked by a pair of golden gryphons. Their sudden ambush plucked the horse Maurice was riding on out from under him and sent Maurice tumbling down a hill. Without his mount or supplies, Maurice worried about returning home safely, until he came upon our heroes, Simeon Taril and Berosh Imret.
