Eagle Mountains

The Eagle Mountains (Khaghat'oa: Jai'serare) are a mountain range located in northern Iroa. The massif rises to its highest in the east and gradually descends down into the Khaghat Steppe before rising again to form the Hotan Ridge. It separates the regions of Ospeiria and Khaghat, and contributes to the relative aridity of the steppe. The region has a sparse mortal population comprised of Khaghate, Samartha, and Ospeir communities as well as pockets of monstrous inhabitants. The Eagle Mountains hold a special place of significance in Khaghate mythology as it is believed to be where the Ogadinui was imparted to the first Khaghatan as recorded in the "The Legend of Khaghate the First."

Geography

The Eagle Mountains rise to an average of 3,560 meters above sea level with the snow line appearing on the northern side of the range at around 2,000 meters and 2,400 meters on the southern side. Passes through the Mountains are few and usually quite treacherous, with the most accessible being located between the Eagle Massifs and the Hotan Ridge. Several large valleys lie between sections of the mountain range, with the upper portions usually obscured by snow and the lower reaches dotted with conifer forests, open pastures, and steppe grasses. The region is studded with many large, deep lakes created from glacial runoff. These lakes in turn feed a number of mountain streams that then descend down the mountains in the form of narrow, cold water channels that supply the Khaghat region with fresh water.

Fauna & Flora

The Eagle Mountains are an alpine biome and are home to a number of animal species that are unique to the region. The mountains also separate a number of animals commonly found in Ospeiria or Khaghat and limit ecological exchange between the two regions. However, occasional changes in climate or mortal population pressures do sometimes drive species across the Eagle Mountains, resulting in new isolated populations on either side of the great massif. Some animals have been imported to the region by mortals for food or other reasons.   Domesticated Species:
