Coriander of Medb

Coriander

Coriander of Medb is an Éruladic female firbolg warlock and a companion of Fenrir Frost and Lyle Quick in the Orphean League Campaign.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Coriander appears as an elderly firbolg woman with grey-green fur crisscrossed with scars. Her jowls and ears droop, suggesting over a century of hard living. She wears a simple barmaid’s apron and stained tunic. Around her neck, she wears a tarnished, silver amulet in the shape of a seven-pointed star. On her shoulder sits a rook that caws incessantly and is always fascinated by her glittering silver necklace.

Personal history

Long ago, Coriander’s father joined a group of knights known as the Brotherhood of Bronze. He participated in their pilgrimages to the Mashiq and their early skirmishes against the Qartagonians. Sometime later, he arranged for his wife and child to be brought over to their fortress at Migdalmark. Coriander did not like the Mashiq and came to hate her father.    Coriander became a rebellious child. She came to run with a group of street toughs and criminals. One day, Coriander stole a noblewoman’s necklace. She fled and was about to be caught by the townguard when a kindly man in an evergreen cloak with a silver cane appeared and helped her escape. He told her he could give her powers her father could only dream of and make her more of a legend than her father could ever be. She agreed, and the kindly man disappeared. She looked at the necklace of the noblewoman to find it to be a silver amulet with seven points.    By the time of First Pilgrim War, she became the bad sort of adventurer of the Mashiq: plundering tombs, drinking, stealing, and participating in many horrific events, including the Sunstair Massacre. Each time she did something awful, she worried her patron would take away her gifts, but he never did.    After many years of battles and victories, her best friend Victor the Blackheart, was killed. At Victor’s funeral, Coriander cursed her patron for giving her this gift and letting her run wild.    As she left the funeral, the kindly man in green appeared and told her that if she wished, he would take away her gifts. But he also said that her destiny had yet to arrive. Her curiosity stirred and she agreed the curse was a mistake.    The kindly man suggested she live a quiet life until the time was right for her to seize her destiny. He told her to go to Iskendra and start an inn or an apothecary shop.   For the next few decades, Coriander ran the Stone’s Throw Apothecary in the oldest part of the city near the Sandchase Arena of Iskendra. She hired a washed up crusader named Desmond Shortear to tend the counter.   Each night, the kindly man Middendoc Sevenpoints would appear in a dream to her and show her a face of a halfling fellow along with the words:
Sevenpoints of the Seventh Star Shines on the Chosen from afar In the desert beneath the bone-dry sands Lies the Lake of Fire that warms our lands Sundered by Sable Queen Forgotten by mortalkind Lost to thought and memory and mind The third shard awaits the Garden King Beast-speaker, shape-changer, young halfling Guide him, O Chosen, to the Cosmic Heart And beware the half-man and his creator’s dark art So shines the shifting future Of Sevenpoints of the Seventh Star
Coriander does not know the meaning of this phrase but believes they are connected to the halfling she now believes to be Lyle Quick.

Social

Family Ties

Coriander's father was a devout follower of the Heavenly Council and a paladin of Calorba. He was far more interested in providing his family access to the Mashiq than providing them with a father. He saw their mere proximity to the divine as a sign that he was a good father and took any slight or criticism poorly. He could be violent, uncharacteristic for a firbolg, but years of fighting in horrific conditions and the drinking in of hateful doctrine made him a dark figure in all of his children's lives. This caused Coriander to become a rebellious child and later a shadow of his own sins, when she too participated in the Sunstair Massacre, though not for religious reasons but for pure greed. Eventually, she broke all ties with her family and then after the death of her one virtuous friend Victor the Blackheart, she broke all of ties with her former adventuring party. She traveled to Iskendra, where she became friends with another washed up crusader, Desmond Shortear.

Religious Views

Coriander is a believer in fey animism and believes that all things possess a kind of spirit. While religious, she is actually quite suspicious of other religious individuals, as her time as a crusader taught her what horrors are so often done in the name of the gods. She wishes to be brought to live as a reincarnated spirit in the Feywild upon her death and everything she does is for the redemption of her soul by the Lavender Queen and the Seelie Court.
