Zemesh Character in Hislariya | World Anvil

Zemesh

WIP - Summer Camp quality. This will continue to be edited during July and likely after the prizes adjudication. CW: mention of interspecies relationships
Little is known of the life of the dragon Zemesh, but their memory is still of great importance for the dragon and makarid's community all over the world of Hislariya.   When the lovers of Makahar fled his anger and occupied the Zem's atoll, they thought their children were the first offsprings of the union between umans and dragons, but it took only a little exploration of their new home, to discover the Zemesh's fresco and understand that the phenomenon was probably as ancient as the dragons and humans themselves. But the fact was kept secret among the isolated community for centuries, before the explorers reached the atoll and were able to study the relics of Zemesh's and their lover's life.   From what historians were able to patch from fragments of mosaics and frescoes and other documents that mention the name of the dragon elsewhere in the world, it appears that Zemesh was a creature who originally lived in Bada's island.    Their Palace's artworks are the only example remained from where a physical description can be derived, but from them it seems like they were a melanistic individual, with dark brown or black uniform scales, even if in some fragments of some mosaics it appears like a faint darker pattern was visible along their spine and extremities. The fact that many of their makarids depicted in the mosaics seem to also have a dark pattern running along the spine and extending to the arms and back of the legs to variably colour the fingers or the whole feet and hands, seem like a confirmation that that was a trait genetically transmitted by Zemesh (it is also, still to this days, one of the most common patterns seen in their descendance)
  • Personality: welcoming, horny, territorial towards other dragons, protective with human lovers and children.
  • History: Fled Bada, possibly as effect of an earthquake or eruption. Found a safer position in the atoll, built a palace and transferred their family. Unclear time and cause of death, might be related to the fire that destroyed a wing of the palace or happened at a second time.
  • Effects on perception of makarids in the whole world, in their clan, in other dragons, in the dragon's seekers.
  • Celebrations in the Clan. Celebrations by the Dragon's seekers. Makarid's veneration as a general ancestor.
  • Children
