The First Time

The tent regulated to Kasbiel was smaller than the Commanders but bigger than the others. It afforded him a certain amount of deference, supposed special treatment, even if he had been contained to the interior. He didn’t need to eat nor were other bodily functions a requirement, so he would be left alone until the camp would break down and be on their way once more. Then he would be given his horse and be made to ride, surrounded by his honor guard. Soldiers that were uncomfortable around him, that wouldn’t speak even if spoken to, that feared to even look too long.   For all that Kasbiel did for their Lord, for how useful he was, a blessing most considered him, Kasbiel was still other. Unnatural. A tainted gift and tool. That he behaved inhumanely didn’t help, either. He had never fought for his freedom, had never struggled to get away. All previous attempts to sneak out had been met with force, but that had been… Generations ago? The men surrounding him now were unfamiliar.   Since he did not sleep, there was no cot. Since he did not eat, there was no dinner. The tent was empty save a threadbare rug spread in the center where he sat and the horse bags of his personal things. Clothes, really. Everything in the color and current style of the Lord that was housing him. Gifts. Displays of his wealth. Decorations for the angel. Pretty chains to compliment the tent that served as his prison.   When the dark of night blanketed the quiet camp, the canvas walls became screens of moonlight. Occasionally shadows would cross – soldiers on patrol.   An unnatural chill crept across the floor and up Kasbiel’s spine. It was the only indication he had that he wasn’t alone. He tilted his head to the side, searching the dark, before he spoke softly, “Hello?”   A figure stepped around him and crouched within arm’s reach. Their stunning golden eyes were luminescent. Bright and wicked. “Why would they sequester you?” The stranger leaned forward just a little before making a show of taking a deep breath. Those bright golden eyes narrowed just a little. “What are you?”   The accent was odd but the language still flawless. Kasbiel could barely make out any distinctive features against the dimly lit tent wall. A crouched shape, pointed ears sticking up out of long hair that melded into the dark of their flowy clothes. “How did you get in here?” A question as an answer. There was no reason Kasbiel had to answer.   A slender, clawed hand lifted in a wave of dismissal indicating the soldiers behind the crouched figure. “They don’t know I’m here. Wouldn’t remember even if I introduced myself, just like you won’t remember once I leave.” Confident and smooth.   “So answer me. How did you get in?”   “Answer me first,” he quipped, voice pitched with amusement. Like they were playing a game.   Kasbiel looked away from the golden eyes. “They call me Divine. I’ve been called many things.”   Movement from the corner of his eye told Kasbiel the stranger had moved. The answer came from behind him once more. “I slid under the tent wall.” When Kasbiel twisted to look, to catch the creature in the act, he was already gone.   There was no point in trying such an act himself. He could most likely get away from the camp, he might even get a couple days start, but when they caught him – and they always did – he’d be punished. Strung up in the dungeons once more. Forgotten until they thought he’d learned his lesson.   Kasbiel considered the brief encounter before putting it from his mind. That was hardly the first odd encounter he’d had with curious creatures. Things tended to be drawn to him. Surrounded by humans, armored ones, the creatures would then not think it worth the effort to try and converse with him. One small exception didn’t change anything.

Yuu

Yuu is forgetable. It's one of his powers. Anyone he has ever met forgets they've ever talked to him. A fickle creature as fleeting as his existence in other's memories. This leads him to be curious about new things, fearlessly so.
