Under Ealar Laucacian , the Court presents itself as a civic power that can help stabilize zyrokhil through magical research, education, and cautious alliance with The Gold administration. Under Bialear, the priesthood of Lathander pushes a more exclusionary vision, using religious authority, historical revision, and lineage politics to reshape the Court into the center of a new magical hierarchy. This makes the Court not just a storehouse of knowledge, but a battleground over who controls truth, who gets to inherit power, and what kind of city Zyrokhil will become.
Plot points/Scenes
- During the 300 years of lockdown, the Court of Gems endured as one of the great institutions trapped within the inner city. In earlier centuries it had been shaped by elven magical stewardship, with power and lineage usually passing through matriarchal lines. When magic vanished during the Closed Gates Period, that practical foundation collapsed.
- In the centuries that followed, a male-led priesthood devoted to Lathander rose in influence. Without living magic to validate authority, the Court preserved itself through ritual, doctrine, ceremony, and control over the archives, maintaining texts, artifacts, genealogies, and sacred procedures with obsessive care even as they became objects of reverence rather than tools of practice.
- Like the Gold Administration, the Court preserved rank, formality, and prestige even as the original basis of its power became hollow.
Triggering Event. The Storm
- Then the magical storm hits. Sacred procedures once kept as ceremony suddenly produce real effects, other teachings fail in public and visible ways, and the Court is thrown into an immediate crisis of legitimacy.
- The storm does not restore the Court cleanly. It exposes contradictions in doctrine, reactivates forgotten systems, and becomes the moment from which the institution begins to divide internally.
Act I. The Division
- After the storm, two internal currents emerge within the Court. They are not openly declared as separate factions, but increasingly act through different priorities, networks, and interpretations of what the Court should become.
The official leadership under Ealar
- Ealar remains the formal face of the Court. He wants the Court to help rebuild the city and regain legitimacy by becoming useful to zyrokhil as a whole. He supports cautious cooperation with the Gold Administration and pushes for the opening of a university so more people can study magic.
- Under Ealar’s vision, magical education should widen access and help stabilize the city, even if the Court still retains prestige, status, and aristocratic weight.
The priesthood under Bialear
- Bialear leads the male priesthood devoted to Lathander. They look down on the so-called inferior races, including the people of the Gold Administration, and remain hostile to them because of the wars of earlier centuries. They see the return of magic as an opportunity to secure male-led elven supremacy.
- Their deeper goal is to create a magical lineage that can be transmitted through the male line, overturning the older elven pattern in which power usually passes through women. To that end, they secretly kidnap magical children, especially Tlacopani children, to study magical inheritance and use them in hidden breeding programs.
Act II. The Open Court
- The Court begins to open its halls, archives, and schools. Publicly, this is presented as a return to learning and service. In practice, the reopening creates a split between what the Court shows the city and what it hides beneath its foundations.
- Some of the stolen elven children are quietly folded into the student body. Non-elven children are hidden in the catacombs below, where some receive controlled training while others are used in magical experimentation.
- At the same time, renewed research begins to uncover records that threaten the priesthood’s authority. These texts reveal the true prominence of matriarchal magical lineages and show that pre-lockdown magical development was collaborative, involving many peoples across the city.
Ealar’s open court
- For Ealar, the reopening is a civic project. He wants the university to broaden access to magical learning and help rebuild the city, and the rediscovered records support a more honest and inclusive vision of the Court.
- In this reading, legitimacy can be rebuilt through scholarship rather than myth.
Bialear’s open court
- For Bialear, the reopening is a chance to capture the institution from within. The priesthood recruits scattered elven descendants throughout the city, teaches that magical excellence is naturally tied to elven blood, and keeps schools open only so long as deeper authority remains in priestly hands.
- Education appears public while quietly reinforcing hierarchy. Records that contradict priestly authority are seized, altered, or suppressed, while the kidnapped children, especially Tlacopani children, become central to private research into blood magic and magical inheritance.
Act III. The City
- As the Court expands outward, it sends scholars, agents, and retrieval teams across Zyrokhil to recover artifacts, magical texts, and fragments of lost infrastructure. Publicly, this is framed as preservation. In practice, both sides use the expansion for different ends.
Ealar’s cityward vision
- Ealar wants the Court to become a stabilizing institution for the city. Dangerous relics should be catalogued, secured, and studied responsibly, and magical knowledge should support healing, research, and recovery.
Bialear’s cityward vision
- Bialear uses these same efforts to build leverage. Items of cultural or spiritual significance to other communities are absorbed into Court collections under the language of proper stewardship, while magical access becomes increasingly shaped by status, lineage, and dependence.
Act IV. The Alliance
- The Court moves into closer cooperation with the Gold Administration. Publicly, the alliance seems logical: one institution offers magical expertise, the other offers structure, reach, and political machinery.
Ealar’s alliance
- Ealar sees cooperation as necessary for rebuilding Zyrokhil. He treats the alliance as a difficult but practical civic partnership.
Bialear’s alliance
- Bialear remains hostile to The Gold administration, but is willing to align with it tactically. His goal is not partnership, but corruption. He wants to bend The administration’s plans from within and ensure that any restored hierarchy places Elves, and especially priestly bloodlines, at the top.
- Wherever the Gold Administration formalizes status, Bialear’s followers push to make magical ancestry one of the hidden measures of worth.
Act V. The Resistance
- As the Court’s contradictions sharpen, resistance emerges from within. Scholars, archivists, teachers, and traditionalists begin pushing back against the priesthood’s revisions. Some work quietly to preserve records, while others try to support Ealar’s more civic and inclusive direction.
- The conflict remains mostly internal, but becomes more dangerous with each passing phase.
Ealar’s limitation
- Ealar leads the Court formally, but does not control all of its power. He must preserve institutional unity while trying to prevent the priesthood from dominating the Court’s future.
Bialear’s escalation
- Bialear responds with increasingly authoritarian methods. Dissenters are accused of corruption, impurity, or outside influence, and opposition is contained through intimidation, ritual authority, and selective magical coercion.
- The institution charged with preserving knowledge becomes a place where truth is politically dangerous.
Act VI. End State
- The future of the Court depends on which current prevails.
If Ealar holds ground
- The Court may become a difficult but valuable institution in the rebuilding of Zyrokhil. The university could become a genuine civic center for magical learning, and the Court could regain legitimacy through usefulness, scholarship, and negotiated cooperation.
If Bialear prevails
- The Court becomes the engine of a new magical aristocracy. Education becomes a filter, archives become weapons, ritual becomes dependency, and truth becomes a privilege reserved for those accepted inside priestly authority.
Final phase if unchecked
- Bialear’s long-term project is a grand magical working that reshapes the city over generations. Presented as divine order under Lathander, it would amplify magical aptitude in preferred elven bloodlines while reducing access, recognition, and advancement for others.
- It would not need to announce itself as conquest. It would make hierarchy feel natural, fusing the Gold Administration’s bureaucratic hierarchy with the Court’s magical hierarchy into a single artificial aristocracy maintained through control of education, lineage, archives, and belief.

Year 300: The first elven matriarchs arrive in Herandan from the plane of Ealar, bringing with them advanced magical knowledge, particularly in the sciences and manipulation of time and space. These pioneers spread across the world, founding new settlements. Magical potential in elves is passed down mainly through the female line, with males borrowing their magic from their closest living female relative. The elves are devoted to female deities, especially the mother goddess Mishakal.
Year 2300: The plane of Ealar is closed off due to overwhelming influence from the demonic plane of Bysmol. This corruption causes a condition known as the Infestation, which spreads among the world’s magical populations.
Year 2600: After a purge eliminates the Infestation, the elves attempt to recover their lost magical knowledge, but their connection to Ealar remains weak or nonexistent.
Early Settlement in Zyrokhil: Some elves settle in the city of Zyrokhil and establish a magical academy, featuring a communication portal linked to the Ealar plane. The Court of Gems takes charge of magical education and administration within the city, experiencing occasional but minor power struggles with the human-led Gold Administration.
Lockdown Era (2931–3231): During the city’s 300-year lockdown, the Gold Administration blames the Court of Gems for the disappearance of magic. The Court’s territory on the Hill of Seats is reduced to two administrative courts and a small contingent of Ivory Order soldiers. This tension leads to a series of conflicts—primarily instigated by the Gold Administration—resulting in severe casualties among the already small elven population.
Night of Broken Gems: A pivotal, bloody event where most elven leaders are killed in a surprise attack led by the Gold Administration. In truth, Bialear Laucacian, an ambitious elven priest, orchestrates the massacre to erase the matriarchy and the worship of Mishakal. Bialear installs a male-led priesthood, elevates his naive younger brother to monarch, and shifts worship to the god Lathander, rewriting the Court’s traditions.
Present Day: With the city gates reopened and magic returning, the Court—under Bialear’s control—seeks to secure magical children, restore its dominance, and ensure the matriarchy remains buried in history. The surviving elves, scattered across Zyrokhil, may hold the key to reconnecting the magical academy’s portal to Ealar and uncovering the city’s true magical legacy.
