Tower of Kess

The Tower of Kess stands as a lonely sentinel on the northern shore of the Plains of Zarroth, its crumbling spire casting a shadow over the windswept cliffs that plunge down to the tumultuous waters of the Sea of Zarroth. Built centuries ago by the enigmatic Vistrar of Gastranrar, this once-majestic structure is now a forlorn ruin, its walls battered by the relentless coastal winds and storms. Time has not been kind to the tower, and what remains of its smooth stone facade is cracked and weathered, with whole sections of the upper levels having collapsed into rubble.   The tower’s original purpose is shrouded in mystery, though it is said that the Vistrar constructed it as a watchpost to observe the skies and seas for signs of unknown threats. In its prime, the Tower of Kess must have been an impressive sight: a needle-like structure that soared into the heavens, visible for miles around. Its design was both functional and beautiful, embodying the grace and fluidity that characterises the Vistrar’s architecture. Tall, slender windows were once positioned to capture the light of the stars and moons, while the sweeping arches and elegant stonework suggested a building that was as much a temple to the Vistrar’s mastery of the air as it was a fortress.   The interior of the tower is now a dangerous warren of crumbling balconies and dark, empty chambers. Carvings on the walls, faded by time and overgrown with lichen, depict the Vistrar’s view of the world—their love of flight, their reverence for the skies, and their disdain for the ‘earthbound’ races. Little remains of the furniture and artefacts that must have once filled these rooms, though broken fragments of intricate stone altars and strange, hollowed-out pedestals suggest that the tower was used for rituals and ceremonies.
