Soldra Garrison
The garrison fort at Soldra is a small but heavily fortified bastion, perched on one of the higher terraces above the cascading falls of the River Dayn. Built into the rocky slopes of the Rejarn Vaults, it commands a view over the twisting road that winds up to the mountain passes. Though not large, its high walls and strong gatehouse make it a formidable presence in Soldra, a constant reminder of Remon's military authority.
The garrison itself is home to a modest but well-equipped force, tasked with maintaining order in the town and ensuring the security of the crucial trade routes that lead through the mountains to the Norran cities of Grund Ka and Ath Krund. From here, Remon’s northern border is safeguarded, and any who travel through the region are subject to scrutiny by the garrison’s vigilant forces. The garrison’s role is less about defending against direct threats and more about managing the steady flow of goods and people from the Norran territories.
Commanding the garrison is Captain Yuldan, a stern and uncompromising officer who has taken a far less diplomatic approach than his predecessors. Though undeniably capable in a military sense, Yuldan’s brusque and rigid methods have begun to strain relations with the Norran traders.
His focus on enforcing Remon’s control over the mountain passes, combined with a series of restrictive tariffs and regulations, has led to increasing friction. The once smooth flow of trade between Soldra and the Norran cities has slowed, with fewer caravans making their way down from the mountains, and some have even begun seeking alternate routes through the Krund Hills.
Yuldan’s inflexible nature and lack of tact have alienated key Norran merchants and diplomats, and some in Soldra worry that his decisions could jeopardize the town’s economic lifeline. The garrison, once seen as a protector of trade, now appears to be an obstacle to it, as Yuldan's strict enforcement of Remon’s authority grows harsher. His recent decisions, including the impounding of Norran goods over minor disputes, have caused tensions to rise, and whispers of discontent among the local merchants grow louder by the day. Arbesha Beed, the Mistress of the town, has been working hard to try and keep relations civil.
Despite this, Yuldan has the full confidence of his superiors in Harsann, who value his loyalty and his strict adherence to the law. However, some within the garrison itself, especially the older officers who remember a time of better relations with the Norran, are growing increasingly uneasy. They fear that Yuldan’s approach could push the delicate balance too far, leading to a complete breakdown in trade and possibly worse.
