Mabon Channel
The Mabon Channel is a vital but perilous stretch of water, separating the northern coast of Mar Mabon from Teros Major and Teros Minor. The channel connects the Sea of Fair Winds to the west with the open Sarran Sea to the east. It serves as a critical maritime route, facilitating trade between the port cities of Teros and the Mar Mabon Townships, but it is fraught with dangers from both land and sea.
On the Mar Mabon side, the bustling city of Orbont and smaller towns like Gathansin and Tabann dot the northern coast, thriving off the channel's trade. The ruins of Vidrazin Keep and Fort Drechorn loom on the cliffs as remnants of the old Thalissian Empire. On the Mabon shore, predators like Rhakkor occasionally venture toward the coast. The Thrasse, vicious winged hunters, patrol the skies, and Krethgorr lurk in the shallows, making any venture onto the water a potential life-or-death struggle.
On the Teros Major side, the arid Cape of Dust is a desolate, windswept region where the ever-present threat of Rhakkor keeps travellers at bay. Its dry plains are marked by twisted Silverhorn trees, shaped by the relentless winds. Further east, the blighted Plaguelands stretch across southern Teros Major, their once-fertile soils poisoned by ancient magic, now inhabited by warped predators like Wyrms and Rhakkor.
The Mabon Coast of Teros Minor offers a stark contrast with its fertile river valleys fed by the Bod and Payla rivers. Here, the port city of Elinann thrives, serving as a hub for trade between the islands. Yet even this more prosperous region faces threats, as Surlokkar, large amphibious predators, prowl the waters, and flocks of Thrasse attack unsuspecting fishing boats.
The channel itself is notorious for its swift currents and the presence of Lorghee, dangerous eel-like creatures lurking near the rocky shores of the Cape of Dust and the Plaguelands. Mariners must navigate these waters with extreme caution, knowing that both the land and sea are filled with threats. Despite its dangers, the Mabon Channel remains a crucial artery for trade across the Helerin Archipelago, its turbulent waters the lifeblood of commerce and exploration.
