Wyrm

Wyrms are long, flightless reptilian creatures that dwell in the deep forests, towering mountains, and hidden caves of Helerin. Known for their immense size, wisdom, and fearsome strength, they are regarded as both protectors and dangers within the archipelago. Wyrms have been the subject of countless myths, often depicted as ancient guardians of secrets or sacred sites.  

 

Physical Appearance

Wyrms have elongated, serpentine bodies that can grow up to 60 feet in length. Their scales are thick and tough, ranging from deep greens to blacks, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings. Their powerful jaws are filled with sharp teeth, designed for tearing apart their prey, and some wyrms are said to emit a foul, toxic vapor from their breath, capable of incapacitating or even killing their victims. Their appearance is both majestic and terrifying, embodying an ancient, primal force.  

Habitat

Wyrms prefer dark, isolated places where they can remain undisturbed for long periods of time. They are found deep in the forests, high in the mountains, or hidden within the caves of Helerin. These solitary creatures seek environments that provide ample cover and seclusion, rarely emerging from their lairs unless provoked or in need of food. Their territories often span large, remote areas, which they defend fiercely.  

Behaviour

Wyrms are solitary and highly territorial creatures, attacking anything that dares venture too close to their lairs. Despite their fearsome reputation, they are not inherently malevolent. Wyrms prefer to avoid conflict unless necessary, guarding their territory and their hoards with quiet vigilance. They are intelligent and ancient, known to remain undisturbed for centuries. However, they are capable of swift and lethal violence if threatened or provoked. Their preferred hunting method is ambush, and they are adept at using their size and surroundings to their advantage.  

Geographic Distribution

Wyrms can be found throughout the deep forests, mountains, and hidden caves of Helerin. The most notable regions include the forests of Remon and the caves of Teros Major, but they are also spotted in the wilder regions of Mar Mabon and Mar Miskun, where the landscape provides ample hiding places.  

Interaction with People

Wyrms are both feared and respected by the people of Helerin. Tales of wyrm encounters are often the stuff of legend, with both hunters and warriors seeking to prove their worth by confronting one of these ancient beasts. However, slaying a wyrm is considered a grave sin in some cultures, as they are often seen as protectors of sacred places or keepers of ancient knowledge. Their scales and bones are highly coveted for crafting armor and weapons, but acquiring these materials comes at great peril, as wyrms are formidable foes.
