Vyssíjórgen Academy
Vyssíjórgen Academy (Sevnóni: Академия Выссиёрген) also known as Skarzká Khryz (Imperial Wythian: Grey Keep) or simply The Academy, is the foremost Sevnóni educational institution, and is Wythe's oldest known university in continuous operation. Originally founded by the folk hero Vyssíj as a means of producing an order of holy warriors, the Academy has since expanded its purview to encompass a broad range of disciplines, from artifice and the arcane to mathematics and rhetoric.
Description & Layout
The Academy is nestled at the base of a glacial valley deep in the heart of the Rorzh'i Vrokyshyy mountains, approximately two days ride from the nearest village of Dar Valkiev to the west. The valley's sole entrance is defended by the mighty Kozdil (IW: Divider), an ancient gate of wrought iron, augmented with magic and manned by the legendary Dwarven Šarkanesh Guard. The Academy itself is a sprawling fortress of seamless grey stone, reflecting its origins as a bastion against the original Orcish inhabitants of the mountains. The castle's keep, which houses (among other things) the Academy's library, is built atop the ruins of an even-older structure of unknown make or origin.
History
The exact origins of the Academy are murky, largely lost to the mists of history. As such, much of the information regarding the Academy's founding is based on folklore or myth, and should be subject to scrutiny.

In contemporary times, the Academy is helmed by a Grandmaester: a magician of extraordinary talent and ability. The office of the Grandmaester functions as a political complement to the Sovereign, leveraging the Academy's influence and authority in service of the Kingdom in exchange for a high degree of autonomy over the Academy's internal affairs. The current Grandmaester is Zyrko Vlodmyrovich, a former Maester of Abjuration and the first Grandmaester to have been born outside Sevnónicha in nearly 2,000 years. Beneath the Grandmaester are the nine Archmaesters, six for each of the recognized magical disciplines and three for the Mylars'ki Sztuk (IW: Mundane Arts). An Archmaester is regarded as the preeminent authority over their respective domain, and are called upon to resolve major crises and represent the Academy in affairs both foreign and domestic. Ranking below the Archmaesters are the Maesters, magi of significant skill and dedication. Maesters hold a variety of roles: some instruct students at the Academy, while others are stationed across the country to serve as generals, diplomats, and councillors.
