Chimeric Matter Material in Hastened Delight | World Anvil

Chimeric Matter

One minute the slice of cake was there, the next it had dissapeared in a flash of heat and light. Horrendous! And such I was looking forward to having a nibble of it!

Chimeric matter (Ch) is believed to be a highly unusual structure of energy, manifesting itself in uncountable ways in the form of an object. The object is extremely volatile and is indivisible. Upon exploding, large amounts of energy is released and the object disappears without a trace.

Properties

Material Characteristics

It may stimulate the senses in all manners possible, since perception is defined through energy in various forms. This may give the object any imaginable colour, shape, texture and so forth.
A typical indicator of chimeric matter is it's non-adherence to the laws of physics as they are currently understood. An example may be an apparition floating in thin air with no apparent force preventing it from falling, or a glowing artifact in a room with no light or means of producing light.
A further indicator is it's lack of smell or taste until the object has a direct 'line of sight' with the affected nerves. A pie of chimeric matter may appear piping hot and delicious, but will be impossible to smell until held under the nose and impossible to taste until the mouth is opened. This is believed to be due to the fact that no particles are released from the object, but a form of energy is radiated which may stimulate these nerves.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It has been observed for chimeric matter to weaken or even disappear when completely isolated from the outer world, as has been proven in the Michael & Scout Experiment.

Origin & Source

Objects of chimeric matter have been found in all manner of places seemingly by chance. A notable case was when a slice of wedding cake had been discovered to be of chimeric matter before disappearing in a marvelous miniature explosion. Luckily no harm was done.

Life & Expiration

As far as observed, chimeric matter can exist indefinitely as long as not isolated for a varying amount of time, as proven in the Michael & Scout Experiment.

History & Usage

Everyday use

No usage has been found for the objects apart from a highly expensive form of vague explosive, since they may not be manipulated without disintegrating in a burst of heat, light and pressure in an explosive fashion.
It is much more common for the objects to be examined by the scientific community, with the vision of creating objects stretching beyond imagination.

Hazards

Handling of chimeric matter is a delicate action, since the tolerances of the object are unknown until the disintegration and have been found to fluctuate.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Objects of chimeric matter are highly sought after by the scientific community, and large sums of money have been spent on particularly unique objects.
Rarely items are also bought as decorative objects, though this is used more as a symbol of wealth than of actual decorative value.
Many objects do not make it to market, however, due to the volatile nature of chimeric matter.

Storage

Ideally chimeric matter has been found to stay stable when conditions surrounding the object are also stable, leading to motionlessly suspended glass vitrines surrounded by a constant light source.

Law & Regulation

Laboratories often enforce strictest regulations concerning chimeric matter due to it's exceedingly rare and volatile nature, though there are no laws regulating the usage.
Should damage be caused by chimeric matter, it is legally viewed as an explosion.
