Great Temple at Lannanor

The Great temple of Lannanor was the first temple built in the Capital city of Lannanor, soon after the city's founding. Known for it's ornate and wondrous glass panes portraying a Sunrise from atop the mountains near the eastern borders of Lannanor.

Alterations

The temple was reinforced in 243A.o.L. with ramparts being carved in the hills surrounding it and defensive structures being built around the main path that leads up its hills. The dirt path was replaced with black stone steps which made it easier for the elderly and injured to be able to reach it in times of peace. Finally, a grand plaza was built before the doors of the temple, and great statues and sculptures of great generals, scouts, leaders and priests of Lannanor. The largest of these is a large sculpture of many children and women praying that was placed at the opposing side of the plaza to the temple, directly facing it, so that when the sun rises above it, its light casts a silhouette that can be seen from most of the city, reminding all of the warriors of what they are fighting to protect.

Architecture

While the temple maintained the characteristic aspects of the stoic and stark Lannanorian architecture, the design of the Great Temple was deliberately constructed in order to provide the citizens of Lannanor with a source of hope and inspiration. Its walls are entirely built of black fortstone and decorated with images of soldiers and warriors dressed in traditional lannanorian skins and armor. On the inside, these ornaments depict images of soldiers without armor, with swords sheathed and spears bundled, praying alongside women and children, sitting around fires and dancing in festivals.   The main feature of the Temple are its glass panel windows, carefully placed facing the east in a manner that ensures that the rising morning sun aligns with it's depiction above the mountains and projects the many colors of the glass panes into the building, coating its light floors and white gates with a myriad of colors in a magical and colorful spectacle that makes children gasp and even the most seasoned veterans wonder in delight.

History

The Church was built soon after the founding of the Great City. It was comissioned by King Lane in order to combat the deep sorrow that had overtaken his subjects at the notion of living forever inside the northern jungles, as the King had vowed to do. The temple was built ontop the highest hill in the city, standing above the towering treeline in order to provide a direct view of the morning sun as a reminder that the Bright Lady had not abandoned them.
