Gargu-Araki or Streaked Orc Species in Hârn: Isle of Mysts, Magick & Mystery | World Anvil

Gargu-Araki or Streaked Orc

The Gargu-Araki (small or streaked orc) are smaller and lighter than other Gargun, averaging about three to three and a half feet in height, with streaky brown and tawny fur.  Gargu-Araki represents about a third of Hârn's Gargun population. They are smaller and lighter than the other species. They are less repelled by the outdoors than other species, they dwell mostly dwell in nomadic tribes of 40-240 individuals.
Their dwellings are often little more than crude huts, or even loosely-covered nests dug into the ground, or slings slung in trees. About one in six Araki tribes have a queen to protect, they build an earthen lodge over a large pit, with several interlocking chambers, over time lodge will be expanded with more tunnels and side chambers. Gargu-Araki tribal nations, consist of two or clans which range over a large territory. Each nation will have at least one or possibly several queens.
Though small they are some of the most fearsome nocturnal predators. They possess an acute sense of smell, and keen night vision.  Their weapons are often crude but effective, clubs, spears with stone tips, stone axes and knives.  Uniquely, they produce and use a powerful short bow, as well as blowguns with poison darts. They hunt in packs and are a grave danger to the weak, solitary, or unwary solitary traveler.
They are skilled in Herbore and use the knowledge along with their acute sense of smell to communicate with each other. They often use small leather bound totems of herbs to communicate with one another, each bundle of herbs has specific meanings, "Good Hunt", "Danger", "Water" etc.
Longer established tribes usually have some sort of manufacturing capacity to make their own bows, arrows, and mankars.  The Araki avoid other Gargun species whenever possible as they often find themselves enslaved by the stronger species like Gargu-Khanu and Viasal.
