Drowning Defeat Tradition / Ritual in Harmony | World Anvil

Drowning Defeat

To "drown a defeat" is a tavern tradition in the city of Marûagir. Based upon the term of drowning sorrows, drowning defeat is something one does after losing a duel, often in a particularly embarrassing fashion. The unfortunate duelist simply approaches the bar and informs them the they are drowning defeat. The bar then decides a one-time price to pay, and will upon payment then continuously serve the person with an assortment of alcoholic beverages until they leave, pass out, or the tavern closes.

People with a great resistance to the effects of alcohol will sometimes abuse this tradition by intentionally losing a duel around mid-day, declare they are drowning defeat, and will go on to drink until the tavern closes for a cheap price.
