Scientists for Future

Worry not, dear citizens! We have the answer!

When a black hole appeared in Deroth's sky, people were bewildered, overwhelmed, and they panicked. The planet's government couldn't explain the sudden existence of what was commonly called "The Anomaly".

Science was focused on the betterment of living condition on the planet, leaning to delegate more and more of the trivial and bothersome tasks to artificial intelligence and cybernetics beings. The conquest of space was a forgotten dream.

That changed when a passage to an unknown part of the galaxy opened for them, but they didn't know how or why it was possible. At that moment the organization Scientists for Future, often dismissed and ridiculized for their unusual theories, gained popularity among the public because they claimed to have the explanation for "The Anomaly" and not only that, they could discover how to use it to benefit the whole planet.

Glory days

Give us more money! We'll take everyone to the stars!
— SF'S Lead Researcher

SF became the best financially founded organization by governments and companies while maintaining their good opinion of the public. They were the ones leading the investigation of "The Anomaly", processing the information, creating plans, and ultimately they were in charge of launching several spaceships and two of them crewed with their own top minds and the best military personnel.

Sadly, the two crewed ship never came back. And to make things worse, "The Anomaly" disappeared. Once again, no one knew how or why.

The last chance

Trust us once more, citizens! We have a plan!
— SF'S Lead Researcher

When it was clear that "The Anomaly" was no longer with them and the crew of two ships were lost on the other side of the galaxy, people panicked and started to blame the SF and pressured the government to withdraw their financial support and put all of them in jail.

The SF came up with a new project to save them and the ships: create a new "Anomaly". They assured that the years investigating the phenomenon gave them the knowledge to replicate it. Al they needed was more money and energy.
After a long debate between supporters and detractors of this new plan. The government decided to fund this new plan

Disbandment

We...have...miscalculated
— SF's Lead Researcher seconds before being lynched by a mob

The plain failed. Instead of creating a new anomaly and rescue the crews, the planet suffered severe and irreversible damage in the atmosphere as a consequence of the misuse of the energy resources. The population was close to massive extinction. The destiny of every living thing was in danger.

Completely not predictable at all :p Are the crews still alive or did they not have enough autonomy to survive for very long? I'm very curious about what's at the other end of the galaxy now... Or was the first hole opened by something and now that the have research specimen they closed it? XD

Lol...High Council of Smart Idiots. I can relate to this descriptor...   The Anomaly is a lot like Cotton Eyed Joe... we do not know where it came from, nor do we know where it goes...   And the good folks at SF do not seem to be great at their jobs.
