Dvawikharad

The Mountain Dwarves or Dvawikharad, are the Dwarves from where all Dwarves come from, the original Kharad Vargarmal is in the Razorback Mountains that are the border between Thulos and Findallas. Though these days the most important Kharad is Khardin where High King Brakgramri Flamebeard rules the Mountain Dwarf people, though this rankles in the beard of Arkhal Blackhammer, the King of Vargarmal.   There are many Kharad’s across the world of Hamanshiron and every ten years the Kings of the Kharads hold a Moot in the Kharad of the High King, since Flamebeard’s elevation there have been three Moots, both the Hill Dwarves and the Nomad Dwarves are represented as are their Mountain Gnome cousins.   Each Kharad Dwarf goes through puberty (about 10 years from the age of 25 to 35) learning various skills to figure out what they are best suited to apprentice in, each apprenticeship varies in it’s length but all Kharad Dwarves no matter their trade must spend their 45th to 50th years serving in the Kharad military, this is the minimum term anyone may serve in the Kharad forces, this serves to have a civilian population that is well trained in combat as well as giving them an understanding of the dangers that the Kharads face if they don’t work together for the good of the Kharad.   Rarely do Kharad Dwarves reject the path set out to them at birth and leave the Kharad without at least what Humans would consider a Journeymans knowledge of a trade, and also the ability to defend themselves, but they do exist, they are exiles, never to return to their homeland, and are rejected by any of their own kind. Most of these Wretches become thieves and malingerers.   The Kharad Dwarves and the Mountain Gnomes have forged a mutually beneficial society, the Gnomish natural affinity with engineering & science and the Dwarven natural affinity with rock and smithing, has created some of the great marvels of the age, the Airship, the mountain lift and the firearm, each and every one a product of the cousin races working in harmony.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Kharad Dwarves tend to have a congenial relationship with all the goodly races, though they and the High Elves do not get along due to the supposed broken agreement between the High Kings of the High Elves and the High King of the Kharad Dwarves, a historian may point out that at the time the agreement was made there were no Kharad Dwarves just the Dwavihar, and the Elf High King would have resided in the Forest of Life, though possibly not in the presence of either race.   They get on best with Gnomes but especially good are their relations with Humans who are their major trading partners, the Valkani whom they have similar ideals and societal behaviours. Halflings for the most part get on well with Mountain Dwarves as long as they trade fairly, certain clans of the Striders have trouble doing that, but then so do certain clans of the Kharads. Other than the enmity between themselves and the High Elves, Kharad Dwarves tend to get on well with other Elves, except the evil ones.
