Personal history
Bishop Gavril Stoyanov was born on the 20 Raging 1939 in a common-class family in Marinovica. His father was a dockworker, and his mother was a devout follower of the Church of the Seven, instilling in him a deep sense of faith. Despite not having a lot of money, his family sent him to a monastery at a young age where he displayed a natural talent for scripture, discipline, and leadership. Within the Church, he studied divine magic and theological doctrine, but his worldview hardened after joining the Templars in his mid-20s. There, he witnessed rogue wizards abusing their power, with the Magisterium seemingly turning a blind eye.
By his early 40s, Gavril had risen to the position of a Vicar and began leading investigations into forbidden magic and noble excesses. His tenure was marked by uncompromising enforcement of divine law, clashing frequently with the Duchy's noble houses, particularly the Valchevs and Maglovich. He advocated for greater church oversight of wizards, but his efforts were blocked by Magisterium.
His reputation as a calculating and relentless enforcer solidified, and despite facing political resistance, he continued expanding the Church’s influence through the Templars and Inquisitors.
In 2000, Gavril was appointed the Bishop of Marinovica, and immediately reorganizing the Templars and Inquisitors to expand their authority over magical regulation. He remains fiercely opposed to the Council of the Tide and the noble houses of Marinovica, believing they wield unchecked power at the expense of divine law.
He now closely monitors House Valchev, convinced they are hiding something dangerous about the Leviathan, and seeks to limit noble control over magic in favor of church oversight. Though he maintains a tense but official relationship with the Duke, he prepares for the day when the balance of power in Marinovica may shift in favor of the Church of the Seven.
