Aquillia'Dante

The “Breath of the Ocean”, “Lurker in the Deep”, “Sultan of the Sea”.

Aquillia'Dante is the god of the Sea, the Depths, and Ocean Storms.  He governs the aspects of exploration, self-reflection/mutability, and freedom.  As such Church Doctrine depicts him as the embodiment of water within the group of deities known as the Cardinals.  In this group, he holds the pillar of the West.

 Aquillia'Dante is an interesting God in the sense that no one seems to have any lasting favor or issue with him.  In truth, his mood, motives, and even his form changes on a near daily basis and he seems content to stay out of divine politics. Though Aquillia'Dante's main commandment (if it could be called that) is to explore everything and challenge everything.  His clergy teach that those who truly wish to know Aquillia'Dante must explore themselves and their surroundings.

 

 Clergy of Aquillia'Dante are fishermen, sailors, and mariners. Many among his most devout followers count themselves as members of the Nauts and guard their secrets of oceanic travel. Before any successful sea voyage, it is encouraged to pray and present an offering to the Sea God at his temple or at the edge of the ocean before one departs. His temples are found within every Church of the seven and as a shrine on every Naut vessel.

1. Loyalty. Your word is your bond. Without loyalty, oaths and laws are meaningless.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

 The Church’s depictions of Aquillia'Dante show a lean humanoid, hairless and with aquamarine scales. His hands and Feet are webbed and there are gills on his obliques. In every imaging he wears coral like armor on his lower body and is bare chested. Physically, and in the dreams of his followers, he appears as a lean triton with deep, fathomless eyes that convey a crushing sense of cold darkness.

Personal history

The Priest of Aquillia'Dante are usually choral singer and recite epic poetry of a Wizard/sailor who fell in love with the unknowable deeps.  As a mortal, he was a powerful Abjuration wizard that acted as a guide for his people in their journey to Halruaal.  He took to the sea like he was born in it, and learned the ways of weaving magic and protection like the tides and currents of the water.  

Sexuality

Like the Sea, the Sea God's interest is fluid and ever changing.  Aquillia'Dante appears in many texts as having many lovers and courts from various genders and sexes.  The main connection between them being a life of exploration.

Accomplishments & Achievements

 Even before he came to Halruaal his stories marked him as a powerful figure.  Whilst in route to the Northern Lands where House Aetius now resides, he alone protected the entire Fleet from a Leviathan.  The primal entity took offense to their vessels entering it's territory and hounded them for weeks on end.  Aquillia'Dante's stood at the helm of the lead ship and directed the terror as if nothing more than a whiff of smoke.  Those who looked on described him as entering a dance like trance moving with the creature as he warded it away from the ship populated with the first colonists.

When they landed in the North East of Halruaal, Aquillia'Dante refused to step on the main land.  He would only reside on an island.  As his first act of colony building, he personally established the legendary fortress of Aenor.  Originally though it was meant as a beacon and outpost to guide exploration of the new lands - now ironically, it serves as Halruaal's most impenetrable prisons.  But his achievements did not end there.

As his mortal life came to an end and he along with the other six Magisters ascended into godhood, Aquillia'Dante established himself as the main architect of the Enochian Ward.  The barrier that prevented greater outsider beings from entering Halruaal was a testament to his skills as a guardian.  Even two millennia later, the ward has not been broken or faded, and it's power keeps out the Demons, Devils, and jealous gods of the worlds the people of Halruaal originally escaped from.
