Session 2: Adventures in Myrkan Report
General Summary
11th of Shesti 2783
The party reunited in the late morning of the 11th and made their way to the headquarters of the Vonthal Royal Trading Company in the Financial District of Myrkan. After a short meeting with their employer, Thirin, the party decided they would follow some leads to a tavern located in the seediest part of the seedy Dock district in Myrkan known as the Balding Goat tavern before setting out toward the Glitterdeep Mine west of Myrkan. The young man from Rafeld who had accompanied the group thus far, Daryl, was tasked by Thirin with other business and parted ways with the other four adventurers before they set out to the tavern. The group made it's way into the Docks district and rubbed elbows with the sweltering masses engaged in trade and more nefarious trade. As they passed off the well-trod thoroughfares that allowed trade goods and immigrants to head from the docks to the more reputable areas of town they were forced to traipse through muck and twisting streets and alleyways before arriving on the doorstep of a ramshackle tavern complete with rickety porch and smoke darkened windows. After a brief discussion, the group decided the half-orcs, Tal and Krull, would enter the tavern to obtain a lay of the land as the tavern's reputation left a lot to be desired. Meanwhile, Sir Tancred and Azar, would remain on the porch trying to remain inconspicuous in case they were needed. The scene that greeted Tal and Krull was unusual. The tavern was virtually deserted except for a tall, burly looking sailor and his companion seated at the bar and a tavernkeeper who appeared ill-at-ease at their arrival. The two sauntered confidently up to the bar and ordered a drink becoming more suspicious all the while as they were eyed up by the two sailors who had been seated when they entered. After a brief conversation and posturing a fight erupted. With the help of Sir Tancred and Azar, the half-orcs triumphed over the two others, but, despite the group's best efforts, the tavernkeeper fled into the chaos of the streets. Sir Tancred was able to convince his fellows that interrogation of these two men was in order and they were able to discover that these men had apparently been hired to do nothing more than keep the tavern clear of patrons. As far as any of them could tell, they had no further involvement in the expanding bandit network they had been uncovering. While Sir Tancred and Tal were busy interrogating the new prisoners, Azar and Krull made their way upstairs to search for any other clues that may be hiding. Their diligent efforts paid off with the discovery of several books and parchment papers indicating something of interest going on in Light's Hope, a nearby settlement run by the Knights of Andrath. The group also found several books containing the stamp and mark of the Bibliothèque Myrkan a small local library and a note with a mysteriou message. Lastly, the group found a hidden compartment with an iron lockbox. Tal and Sir Tancred had just begun to share what was learned from the captured men as Azar and Krull made their way down the stairs of the tavern when two burly thugs, accompanied by a now, more menacing looking, tavernkeeper. A brief, but desperate, battle ensued and while their odds at first looked grim the motley band of adventurers managed to pull together and capture these three new assailants. Tal, Krull, and Sir Tancred wasted no time interrogating the now subdued tavernkeeper who confirmed that he was part of the larger bandit network they'd been seeking. After a short argument and feeling as though they'd gotten all the information they could, Sir Tancred convinced the, somewhat bloodthirsty, half-orcs that it was best to let everyone go even letting the hired sailors keep their money. Following the fight and interrogation, the party made their way back to Thirin Vonthal who helped set them up in an inn for the night. The group, battered and bruised, decided to rest before exploring any of the new leads they'd discovered or setting out for the Glitterdeep Mine. With some luck, Azar was able to pry open the lockbox and the group discovered a small treasure trove hidden inside to which they helped themselves. Thus ended the very eventful 11th of Shesti T.A. 2783.
