House Hunain

House Hunain is the youngest of the eight Elector clans of the Kingdom of Hain, and the weakest by most estimations. Known as the bitter outsiders of the political scene, Hunain proudly controls the Northern marches of Graefsher. More than the other Elector clans, Hunain's accomplishments are well within memory. During the apocalyptic war known as the Fifth Scouring, House Hunain rose from obscurity to lead a relentless guerilla campaign against the invaders. The great hero Kovra Hunain, a mere Burgrave of a poor fief, sacrificed her riches and lands to stand relentlessly against evil. She and her children scored countless Honors and rose to replace an Elector clan that was wiped out by the war.    House Hunain is known for their loyalty and willingness to pay debts, particularly to their ancient ally House DevHauzen. They are also known for their strong association with the Ketarun Cats, with whom the Hunains are particularly adept at building relationships with. Hunain is known for their odd allies like that - they also have a good historical relationship with Monastic orders like the Slevenkine Order  As a general rule, House Hunain is known to invest heavily in people rather than places - they are quick to throw their patronage behind champions, artists, and inventors they consider brilliant, but are more stingy when it comes to their unimpressive vassals. House Hunain is stagnating.
  • House Hunain is Dryad-Starspawn
  • The House symbol is a cat with a hammer, or a cat with a hammer's head for a head; this comes from a relic that the Ketarun Cats gave their family - supposedly the hammer of the legendary hero Iteksa. The cat-and-hammer also symbolizes independence with a willingness to slaughter Kivish invaders
  • House Hunain also has land in the Kingdom of Dovenar and the Kingdom of Tugrik
The Current Elector-Princess is Kardelia Hunain, the intense defender. Kardelia is a stubborn and direct woman, vigilant to the point of paranoia and serious in her demeanor. She takes her role as the keeper of the Northern Gate more seriously than her recent predecessors - she sees her role as the defender of Hain, even if most other nobles chuckle at the thought of an invasion happening in her lifetime. Her seriousness doesn't make her a bad politician - nor does it stop her from playing politics. She is an astute diplomat in her own way. Her intense high-minded pragmatism and reputation as a dependable leader make her easy to work with. Between the (comparative) weakness of her clan and her appearance of apathy towards court games, she is easily written off as a dependable and non-threatening character. She is aware of this and uses other's underestimation of her to her advantage. And while her enemies underestimate her, she curates a large list of contacts, allies, and resources. That said, some of the whisperings are true: Kardelia really is bad at intrigue and spycraft. Politics aside, Kardelia is a well-respected warrior with a reputation as a true master horsewoman. She works well with animals and was fond of trying to tame monsters in her youth. She went on many Questing journeys over the years, though rumor has it that some of her adventures were less than noble in the hill kingdoms. Regardless, Kardelia has learned many lessons from dabbling near the chaos wastes and is now a zealous defender of her family and her lands - respectable and honorable whatever she did in the past.
